Job Summary
As Technology Manager for Metallic Structures and Additive Manufacturing, you will lead and grow a team of high-performing technologists in developing differentiating technologies for metallic aerospace component manufacturing. Your everyday tasks will be to manage technical execution of a multimillion-dollar project portfolio and technology team at our US Global Technology Center (GTC) in Fort Worth, TX and a satellite team in Oak Ridge National Lab’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility in Knoxville, TN. The focus of the team is the development of Laser Wire Directed Energy Deposition (DED) Additive Manufacturing (AM) for large-scale, critical aerostructures
You will support development, integration and implement technical solutions and documentation compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints. You will work closely with counterparts in our other international GTCs and within business line Technology organizations to foster knowledge sharing and rapid development of these technologies. You will report directly to the Director of the US GTC.
Job Responsibilities
- Support qualification of AM material and components for aerospace applications with both internal and external customers
- Manage, train and support career development of a team of direct reports
- Plan and lead technology improvements to existing operations and future products
- Manage best practices and coordinating development of systems and processes to support technology insertion into production
- Develop research partnerships with customers, suppliers and academia
- Support securing external funding for research programs and infrastructure
- Monitor, report on and deliver technology projects to time, cost & quality
- Represent GKN on industry and government working groups, conferences, etc.
- Evaluate current industry state of the art and recommending new or complimentary research areas
- Produce industry relevant technology for aerospace applications.
- Promote innovation and capturing intellectual property
- Clearly communicate information and provide technical oversight to direct reports
- Support Technology Readiness Level reviews towards technology implementation
- Organize periodic project reviews within the GKN technology organization and with the customer to ensure good communication of project achievements, issues and progress against plan
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
- 10+ years of relevant R&D, engineering and/or manufacturing experience
- Experience with management of project budgets and tracking of technical progress
- Experience with metallic additive manufacturing
- Proven ability to review technical documentation
- Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR regulations and/or program requirements.
- Experience with CAD and other engineering software
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science or PhD degree in Materials Science, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Experience with new product development
- Experience with non-destructive testing techniques and application
