Job Summary


Driven by the vision of sustainable aerospace innovation, GKN Aerospace develop large scale additive manufacturing, saving waste material and creating new design concepts for lower weight and integrated functionality. The technology target engine structures in advanced material, in sizes up to 3 meter in diameter.


We are looking for innovative, committed persons to join us at the Global Technology Center (GTC), and work with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).


We develop technologies and run development programs for product demonstrations of new design concepts, often in national and EU frameworks programs together with OEM customers. Our mission is to support business growth by implementing competitive technologies. The GTC competence spans over Additive manufacturing process development, advanced material, turbomachinery design, product development, digitalisation, inspection technologies.


We are located at the GKN site and we have our manufacturing and inspection laboratory at Innovatum District in Trollhättan city, where you will be located.

The work will be in close relation to the material development as well process development. Everything with focus to develop a qualitative and effective additive process, and a high performing material.


You have a desire for spending time by the equipment performing measurement and method development and optimization. Curiosity for learning and understanding the Quality requirements and deep interest in understand relation to material performance is a necessity.


Key Responsibilities

Some of the activities will be:


  • Be part of development and implementation of new NDT technologies to support technology development programs
  • Document and present results internally as well as externally with our partners
  • Working close to University and research institute both in Sweden and Europe
  • Perform measurement with the different NDT equipment. Currently we have CT-scanner, Ultra Sonic and X-ray equipment operational
  • Evaluate the results and bring forward novel analysis techniques

The work is performed jointly with your colleagues, through internal technology development projects and in research projects often done in bilateral or multilateral collaboration with our GKN colleagues, industry and academic partners and customers.


Qualifications and experiences


We are looking for someone who are comfortable taking a large individual responsibility as well as being part of a team. You have an interest in material and component integrity assessment, measurement techniques and data processing. You have the ability to create effective networks and you can also take on a technical responsibility role. Furthermore, that you are able to create a positive atmosphere to grow and develop knowledge in others whilst acts as a role model.


Essential qualifications:

  • You are an engineer with a M.Sc. and long industrial experience with Non-destructive Testing
  • Experience from working close with university in research projects as well as writing research proposals.
  • You are proficient in English, both in speaking and writing


Desirable qualifications are:

  • You have knowledge and practical experience in one or more NDT methods like X-ray Computed Tomography , X-ray, Ultra Sonic measurements and thermography inspection
  • Experience with NDT analysis software such as Volume Graphics or Xplus and Python programming
