Job Summary

Driven by the vision of sustainable aerospace innovation, GKN Aerospace develop large scale additive manufacturing, saving waste material and creating new design concepts for lower weight and integrated functionality. The technology target engine structures in advanced material, in sizes up to 3 meter in diameter.


Global Technology Center (GTC) in Trollhättan are looking for a development engineer with deep interest in process simulation, and more specifically additive manufacturing processes.


This role will focus on developing and using tools to predict the material microstructure and the resulting final properties. Interest or experience in integrated computational and materials engineering is a great benefit. This work will naturally also bridge between process and materials development and will require a fundamental understanding of materials as well as the tools required to model these. 


You need have a desire for both materials development and programming, with a curiosity to understanding the physics of the welding/additive process. You will guide the process and materials development based on simulation in everything from design of experiments of simple tests pieces to large-scale prototypes.


Working with technology development will require a self-driven character and that one take ownership to independently progress your tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and use tools for prediction of material microstructure and properties
  • Perform simulation and be part of running test and experiments
  • Drive technology development projects within GTC
  • Document and present results in Technology Readiness Reviews
  • Communicate and present plans and results internally as well as externally with our partners
  • Contribute with creativity and support colleagues in our technology teams, with the future possibility to take on leader roles within GTC
  • Participate in, and by time, lead research programs in corporation with Universities


The work is performed jointly with your team colleagues, through internal technology development projects and in research projects often done in bilateral or multilateral collaboration with our GKN colleagues, industry and academic partners and customers.

Job Qualifications

  • You are an PhD or MSc, with a competence profile in materials or physics
  • You have experience with CALPHAD or other materials simulation tools are meriting
  • You have experience  or a desire to learn about welding process and new materials
  • You have a desire for team work
  • You have an ambition to drive technology projects
  • You have good ability to communicate and present plans and results internally as well as externally with our partners 
  • You have good social skills, the ability to create effective networks and can take on a technical responsibility role  
  • You are proficient in English

The GTC have around 75 employees in Trollhättan and is a part of GKN Aerospace Engine System. The GTC develop technologies and run development programs for product demonstration of new design concepts, often in the framework national and EU-programs together with our customers and partners. The GTC competence spends over turbomachine design, product development, advanced material, manufacturing technologies, digital factory.
