Tool Inspector

Position Summary

Perform diversified inspection operations with a variety of difficult, but non-complex tools, jigs, fixtures, templates, gages and first article parts. 

Description of Duties:

  • Work from engineering drawings, with minimal supervision, to inspect all types of tools, jigs, fixtures, templates, and gauges.


  • Application of tooling inspection procedures to ensure conformance to design, quality of workmanship and operational performance. 


  • Examine complex assembly jigs and fixtures for points of interference, ease of loading, removal of assembly, and coordination with other assemblies.


  • Investigate design issues and production difficulties traceable to newly built or faulty tools.  Perform complex first part inspections. Plan and carry out tool tests before final approval.


  • May direct or instruct inspectors in accordance with work assignments. 


  • Develop and maintain contact with tool engineering, production and inspection departments to ensure workability of tool designs and repairs. 


  • Use of independent judgment, initiative, ingenuity and training to recommend design changes resulting in more efficient operation and performance of tools, jigs, fixtures, etc.


  • May be required to be certified in NDI methods or a customer's certification program.


  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a corporate culture; which supports the Company's overall business objectives and goals, by providing leadership in issues that involve “cost, quality, process, schedule and people”


Position Requirements:


  • Five (5) years of direct and progressive work experience with quality inspection methods and procedures required.
  • High School diploma or GED and formal customer or GKN technical training, involving composite tool inspection methods and procedures required.


  • Applicants must be capable of performing the following functions: work from complicated tool design drawings; application of advanced shop mathematics concepts; demonstrated ability to perform a wide variety of measurement tasks using precision instruments such as micrometers, venire height gauges, surface gauges, sine blocks and advanced technical testing equipment.
