Job Summary

Perform test, analyze and verify results for products and processes. Monitor process trends and facilitate changes while teaching and directing laboratory technicians. Assist in test development and create test reports to ensure production processes meet manufacturing and customer requirements. Investigate test, product and/or process failures and assist in corrective/preventative actions.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and Maintain expertise in the chemical aspects of GKN composites manufacturing.
  • Process control activities to control Chemical Processing lines.
  • Must be able to work around large tanks of chemicals
  • Pursue knowledge necessary to ensure understanding of customer requirements; such as Customer Specifications, Quality System Requirements, ASTM's, Nadcap, etc…
  • Develop expertise in other laboratory testing; such as mechanical, physical, material testing, laboratory technologies and instrumentation.
  • Audit preparation; such as requirements review, complete customer pre-assessment, compliance validation, etc…
  • Evaluate acceptance test results by analyzing and interpreting test data using established criteria and procedures.
  • Work with superiors to solve complex test anomalies.
  • Interface with engineers, peers, or internal customers to identify requirements and resolve manufacturing related process problems.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of Lab Technicians.
  • Investigate and propose improvements to reduce cost, cycle time, process controls and/or customer satisfaction.
  • Work independently to perform tests to verify product compliance and production process fidelity.
  • Understand measurement, test equipment calibration requirements, and verify compliance.
  • Raw Material certifications - review and validate test results.
  • Perform mechanical testing and evaluation results.
  • Pursue personal development by learning Laboratory Tests in the GKN Laboratory Training Matrix.
  • Operate saws and polishing wheels to fabricate specimen for photo microscopy.
     

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Chemistry or related field of science. Chemical Engineering, Material science, Chemistry or Biology preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics may also be considered.
  • One year of experience in a laboratory-testing environment required; two years preferred.
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chemistry Degree
  • Experience in Chemical Processing 
  • Professional laboratory experience
  • Precision, Quality of work, attention to detail is important. 
  • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation is desired 
  • Experience in Nadcap accreditation, or similar audit / certification is desired. 
  • Experience in lab control / SPC software; such as, “TrueChem” (by Truelogic) would be a plus, but not essential. 
  • Mechanical testing knowledge (Tensile, Lap Shear, etc… ) would be a plus, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of chemical, physical, mechanical, hardness and conductivity laboratory testing.
  • Experience in the testing of aerospace material and related requirements.
  • Metals heat treatment and pyrometry control.
  • Interest and skills for a future Leadership role in the Lab is very desirable 
  • Strong Problem Solving ability is important
  • Technical writing and communication skills
  • Organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and leader.  
  • Able to summarize issues for other engineers, quality and production operation personnel, and make recommendations.  
  • Excellent instrumentation, computer, MS-Excel and SPC Software skills.
  • Awareness of cost and schedule impact for laboratory processes.
