Job Summary

** 12 month Fixed Term Contract with possiblity of extension **

Provide technical expertise at a site and program level for operational and development Programs to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills. Accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.

Job Responsibilities

  • General Requirements:
    • Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.
    • Technical expertise at a site and programme level in governance and deployment of manufacturing development and integration for production within GKN Aerospace. 
    • Provides technical expertise to rapidly solve issues pertaining to vendor schedule and/or quality.
    • Breaks down technical problems, risk, opportunities, in the correct order to create products and add value to GKN Aerospace through creating Zero Defects
    • Leads positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
    • Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
  • Product ME
    • Provide site and programme level technical oversight for the development of manufacturing process solutions to complex problems through:
      • Site and programme technical lead for the implementation of production planning, from original concept through to production. Design these processes to a high level of process capability through utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.
      • Support the definition of, and implement, global process for product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition and implementation.

Job Qualifications

     Technical expertise in Manufacturing Engineering, with a professional qualification / background (university degree) in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical). Additionally:
o    A recognised authority in the field and source of information for others
o    Capable of taking a strategic view
o    Operates with minimal supervision in a complex environment, demonstrates detailed knowledge in aerospace programs
o    Makes presentations at a senior level internally and externally demonstrating ability to clearly communicate to audience
o    Identifies, anticipates technical problems and customers’ requirements offering solutions and applying them
o    Identifies opportunities to drive the business forward
o    Ability to interpret data, events and looks for appropriate solutions
o    Understands and uses information in a systematic way demonstrating independent expert technical judgement
     Participates in activities within a global technical community and has an understanding of the interface with broader business functions within GKN.
o    Fully competent Technical Community Member, understands relationships between other discipline's and what influences them
o    Applies knowledge and skills to a range of activities, acts as a source of technical expertise to others
o    Understands the formal and informal structures of the organisation and our major customers
o    Strong commercial awareness.
