Established in 1990, Portsmouth is one of our newer locations with a workforce of circa 200 employees. The site is a leading technology provider for the aerospace, marine and military markets supplying an extensive range of specialist fuel tanks and flotation systems, as well as engineering expertise and support for fixed and rotary wing aircrafts, land vehicles, missiles, UAVs, torpedoes and marine vessels.  Our customer base includes Airbus, BAE Systems, Bell, Boeing, General Automics, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce, Sikorsky, Saab, MOD.
 

Job Summary

The site Financial Controller is the key manager for all site level financial matters and a strong business partner to the Site Director and site leadership team reporting to the VP Finance Operations - Defence. This role is responsible for providing a high level of operational guidance and support to the finance function at Portsmouth and US reporting unit leadership team. The role has primary day-to-day responsibility for the integrity of all financial data on site especially towards measures to support better operational performance and decision making, including all management of all costs, providing financial insights that drive decisions, and delivering on business plans. This encompasses robust transactional processing, local management judgement, governance, compliance and reporting as well as the ownership of systems enabling the planning,  control and reporting of financial results for both management and statutory purposes including overall P&L, balance sheet and cash accountability for the site and the allocation of these to the relevant business line, global function or operation. They are also the key partner for financial legal entity matters and supporting the overall business and strategic objectives of GKN Aerospace. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Business Partner with the Site Director to deliver agreed financial commitments, performance improvements and develop future strategy. 
  • Provide analysis and insights of impact from developments in operations on budget, forecast and actuals.
  • Support continuous improvement on working capital and on the various elements to maximise cash conversion.
  • Identification and implementation of Operational and Commercial performance improvement projects.
  • Supports analysis of site profitability performance and Operational variances.
  • Participate in commercial evaluations and provide financial support to the winning of new business.
  • Develop and maintain a system of costing and reporting required to support GKN Costing policies.
  • Manage and support evaluation of appropriate capital expenditures and spend is monitored to confirm value delivered from projects.
  • Ensure that financial systems, controls, delegated authorities and reporting throughout the Portsmouth site comply with defined GKN policies and procedures.
  • Maintain full compliance with all tax and duty regimes.
  • To support and manage as required the site Enterprise Risk Management Process and to co-ordinate action on the Site leadership team to mitigate enterprise risks.
  • To support compliance with regulations particularly relevant in a defence related business including but not limited to export control, ITAR, DFARS and Anti Bribery and Corruption legislation.
  • Ensure that the Finance departments have the appropriate staff development plans to ensure staff potential is maximized.
  • Any other reasonable duties.

Essential:

  • Recognised accounting qualification: ACA, CIMA, ACCA
  • Demonstrable experience of Financial Leadership experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Strong IT literacy
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems
  • Evidence of an ability to instil sound financial management practices 
  • Experience of introducing first class management reporting and control processes


Desirable:

  • Experience of SAP, financial reporting and consolidation systems 
  • Experience in a programme orientated environment with knowledge of Aerospace and Defence

Please note the working hours for this role are 7.30am till 4.15pm Monday to Friday with every second Friday a non-working day ‘Free Friday’.
