Job Summary

** 6 Month Fixed Term oontract ** 

GKN Aerospace in Portsmouth supply an extensive range of products for different types of fixed and rotary wing aircrafts, land vehicles, missiles, UAVs, torpedoes and marine vessels for Fuel and Flotation markets.

The Customs Compliance Officer is responsible for the direct oversight of the Import activities within the sphere of GKN Portsmouth operations.  This includes, without limitation, adherence to applicable laws and regulations pertaining to customs and imports as well as ensuring compliance with GKN Aerospace procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Develop and maintain policies and procedures for use across the site. These policies and procedures need to align and support any higher level policies and procedures regarding Customs and Import.
Know what is imported, from where and the terms of the transactions for all sites to which the individual is assigned.
Provide oversight to various site-level personnel related to customs declarations, including personnel in Shipping, Receiving, Customer Service, Purchasing, Logistics and other operational functions.
Assist with development of export control
Ensure a strong understanding of the business related to customs compliance at the site to which the individual is assigned. 
Oversee accuracy of customs /  import documents and ensure timely filings for the sites to which the individual is assigned
Applying for and maintaining customs import licenses and authorizations (such as Inward Processing, End-Use, AEO) to minimize import duties and/or other import taxes such import VAT and Excise and maintaining contacts with Dutch Customs
Oversee maintenance of records and information in accordance with Customs recordkeeping requirements and GKN Aerospace policy.
Perform sample audits of customs entries, documenting any errors.
Perform annual self-assessment. Identify areas of risk within the sites to which the individual is assigned and work with management on corrective action plans and implementation.
Oversee the activities of customs brokers used by the sites to which the individual is assigned.  Provide standard operating procedures to the broker to ensure that the business’ specific requirements are followed. Conduct a periodic review of the customs entries filed by the broker
Ensure adequate controls are in place to monitor HTS classifications (as assigned by the business) for accuracy. 
Periodically audit the HTS classifications assigned and oversee maintenance of HTS classifications in the local ERP system.
Ensure that the sites has procedures to ensure that complete transaction value, including any additions to the price actually paid or payable, is reported to Customs.
Periodically audit the accuracy of the values being declared to Customs upon importation. Identify any additional payments that must be declared to Customs.
Develop and administer Customs-related training for the sites to which the individual is assigned. Maintain records of training sessions and participants. Train and advise sites on correct HTS classification procedures, valuation procedures and country of origin determination procedures.
