Job Summary


Day to day management of Customs Compliance activities. This would include (but not be limited to):-
• Liaising with 3rd party logistics providers to give clearance instructions on inbound and outbound goods.
• Receipt and retention of relevant documentation (in accordance with requirements.
• Use of Customs/VAT Regimes to minimise duty/tax expenditure.
• Process/prepare and apply various customs permits and declarations (Sites handling Customs Clearance In house)
• Maintenance of master data with relevant stakeholders
• The production of KPI’s to support the Customs Compliance Manager.

Job Responsibilities


• Resolves daily compliance and/or clearance issues with Customs brokers, 3rd party logistics providers and other stakeholders
• Responsible for expediting overseas orders through relevant Logistics companies, as needed to support Procurement and purchase order requirements
• Check and confirm the Tariff Classification, Valuation and Origin (Preferential or Non Preferential) status for all imports and exports.
• Serves as the key resource and subject matter expert on import compliance and daily operational activities
• Liaise with Export Control to ensure the inclusion of the correct licence information on export documentation.
• Minimise the payment of Customs Duty or VAT by using the appropriate Customs Regimes.
• Receipt and retention (subject to Government requirements) of customs documentation.
• Weekly/Monthly production of KPI’s to support the Customs Compliance Manager.
• Respond to requests for Information or Documentation to support government agency requests.
• Escalate any issues to the Logistics Manager or Customs Compliance Manager as required.
• Preparation and/or checking and submission of the quarterly Inward Processing Report.
• The Customs Specialist will be responsible for the management of customs clearance activities, compliance and problem resolution to support the supply chain and operations of the site.
• This position will serve as the first line liaison between GKN and its Customs Brokers.
• The development of process and identification of improvement activities will be a key objective of this role in addition to ensuring optimisation of Duty and VAT outgoings through the use of the correct Customs Regimes.

Job Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with Customs Legislation and Global Trade regimes
• 3+ years of experience with Understanding of the Customs Tariff, Classification, Valuation and Origin requirements  
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing and Logistics environment


Preferred Qualifications:


• GKN Experience
• CCS Certification
• Organisational and communication skills
• Excellent Ability to work alone and unsupervised and as part of a team
• Good problem solving skills
• Knowledge of the Aircraft manufacturing industry
• An appreciation for the HSE requirements of working in a warehousing/logistics environment
• An appreciation for the HSE requirements of working in a warehousing/logistics environment
