We are looking for a Tooling Engineer (Cutting) to join our Systems & Industrialization department, a strong engineering team of 10 people dedicated to our Landing Gear division based in Papendrecht!
We produce complex components for the landing gear of well-known helicopters and aircraft, including the Apache, NH90, F-35, and Bombardier Dash 8 Q400. Quality is our priority in every project and production process. Therefore, we are seeking a quality- and service-oriented Manufacturing Engineer – Tooling to join our dynamic & international team. As a Tooling Engineer, your goal will be the delivery of Tooling to NPI projects in a timely manner, the First Time Yield improvement as a result of tool life specification as well as cost optimization. You will work to deliver zero defect projects by utilizing engineering and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for ensuring robust and capable manufacturing processes related to materials, tooling, part fabrication, and assembly. In this role, you will closely collaborate with CAM Engineers, the Tool Shop, Procurement and Operations.
What would a typical day look like?
As a member of the NPI team, you collaborate during process design with Product Architects, CAM Engineers and Product Assurance engineers on the optimal tooling solution for the production process. This is formalized with a Cutting Tool Requirements form submitted by CAM engineers to initiate your task. There are several NPI projects executing and your support in these projects are pivotal. You are the technical liaison with Cutting Tool suppliers to define optimal Cutting solutions.
Apart from the NPI projects, you will receive Requests for Assistance from Operations, where swift resolution is key to enable production continuity. As a business focusing on continuous improvement, your proposals for an optimized process is valued and our drive to eliminate process risk with the use of technology is a key-element to achieve that objective.
The business has a catalogue of cutting tools in a legacy system and your management of a burn-down plan will form part of Obsolescence Management.

What you'll do
The main function of the role is physical and digital tool management in our advanced tool management system, TDM:
- Process co-owner of the Cutting Tool business process: define, maintain and update; define new elements and assemblies in TDM
- Inventory optimization
- Cost analysis
- Manage tool geometric data and cutting parameters (Feeds, Speeds, DOC, WOC, etc)
- Generate and maintain Cutting Tool drawings
- Develop or specify tool measurement programs for pre-setting system
- Define and ensure synchronization of tool group drive point definitions in collaboration with CAM engineers
- Define tool numbers, tool lists and link to MBOM’s
- Migrate tool definition and data from legacy system.
- Support Operations and CAM engineering queries
- Define, setup and maintain TDM-CAM (CATIA, NX, VeriCut) interfaces
- Localize training material for embedding in Landing Gear’s Learning Management System
- Machine tool table definition
- Chip reader system development and deployment
- Tool life management & optimization
- Interface and communicate with Procurement
- Support root cause analysis
- Support PFD, PFMEA and Control Plan development & maintenance
What you'll bring
There are high quality requirements in aerospace engineering. Fortunately, you never lose sight of quality, are strong in accurate and planned work and can communicate well at all levels, from your direct colleagues and senior management to suppliers. Furthermore, you are a team player, you think in solutions and your analytical mind quickly sees what is needed to further improve things. In addition, you offer the following:
- Technical expertise in Manufacturing Engineering, with a Bachelor's degree in engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical).
- 3+ years of experience working as a Tooling Engineer in a hard metal manufacturing facility.
- Passion for precision, multi-axis machining.
- Previous experience in working with suppliers and owning Tooling lifecycle (from concept generation and quotation to industrialization and production implementation).
- Experience in TDM systems as well as NX, VeriCut and Zoller tool-setting systems is an advantage.
- Advanced user of CAD/CAM system (Particularly Catia V5).
