Summary

This role will report to the Centre of Competence Manager – EWIS Functional Design, but will take guidance and direction on a day-to-day basis from a Senior Engineer or Engineering Team Lead within the applicable design and development project. The place of work will be at GKN Fokker Elmo in Papendrecht, unless otherwise specified. Below qualifications apply for this position:

The role

The EWIS Functional design engineer is taking care of the interconnections inside the EWIS (Electrical Wiring Interconnect System) wiring bundles. Working together with the customer in the definition of the main routing architecture of the wiring through the whole aircraft and gathering aircraft systems interconnection data are key. The selection of parts, materials and constructions will end up in the detail definition of the wiring bundles. Data management of the “from-to” data, wiring sizing, connector sizing, pin allocation is highly automated and performed in our WDMS tool.

As an Engineer, you will be responsible for the execution of the functional design of electrical wiring interconnections systems which involves: 

  • Analyzing design requirements
  • Performing trade-off studies
  • Making design choices and designing wire harnesses constructions and interconnections (From-To definitions)
  • Processing of aircraft systems data packages (files)
  • Writing technical reports and support continuous functional improvements of our Engineering tooling environment, through integration and concurrent engineering with international and multi-disciplinary teams and together with system suppliers and our customers. 

Job Qualifications

Understanding of:

  • Design processes and methods / standards
  • Requirements validation (International) drawing standards and methods
  • System design (components, constructions, schematics, wiring diagrams)
  • Wiring harness functional design
  • Integration aspects of design
  • Design verification (reporting of deviations)
  • Configuration management principles.
     

Fundamental knowledge of:

  • Aircraft and systems
  • Environmental conditions in aircraft
  • Interconnection systems
  • Basics of electronics and mechanics
     

Experience:

  • Preferably a few years of working experience in Aerospace industry
  • Electrical design software (for Aerospace applications)
  • MS office: (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio)
     

Soft skills:

  • Assertiveness: Willingness to learn and to broaden own knowledge; takes initiative to help improve processes and procedures
  • Teamwork: Able to work constructively in a small team taking responsibility for assigned tasks and willing to support other team members in achieving team targets and deadlines
  • Results-driven: Able to plan own work in line with project schedules, reports progress regularly and timely in the event of issues or delays
  • Communication: Fluent Dutch and English in speech and writing, ability to communicate clearly and concisely (including technical reports) with a reasonable amount of flair / forthcomingness.
     

Profile:

  • BEng (or MEng) in Electrical or Aerospace engineering
  • Interested in the aerospace “world”
