Job Summary

In this this vibrant role you will involve the provision of legal advice and business partnering on a wide range of legal and compliance issues to support the Head of Legal and the Civil business line. You will be the primary Legal point of contact for the Business Jets/Regional Jets/Advanced Air Mobility team within Civil, and also the local legal contact for the GKN business in the Netherlands. The role will also involve the identification and proactive management of legal and compliance risk.
 

Specific Accountabilities

•    You will support the Head of Legal by providing technically excellent, timely advice. While you will be expected to support on a wide variety of legal and compliance issues that arise with regard to the Civil business, the main focus of the role will be:

           - Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex international contracts with both customers and suppliers

           - Supporting the Commercial team on customer engagements and the Procurement / Supply Chain teams on supplier issues

           - Contentious matters with both customers and suppliers

           - Regulatory issues

•    You may have to work frequently with other members of the Legal and Compliance team on a matrix basis.  You will need to be flexible and show sound judgement when dealing with organisational ambiguity
•    You will be accountable for owning your own development and adopting a growth mindset; you will be open and willing to continuously improve your legal and non-legal skills
•    You will proactively seek opportunities to collaborate within and support the development of the Legal & Compliance function.  You will take the lead on functional activities across Legal & Compliance
 

Essential Qualifications

  • 8 years+ qualified lawyer, qualified in the Netherlands 
  • Experience at both a top tier law firm and in-house Significant experience in advising on a range of highly complex technical legal and compliance issues. 
  • The ability to work efficiently on own initiative to get things done, able to identify, focus and prioritise key legal/compliance matters, to work under pressure and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • A completer/finisher who can demonstrate work/life balance.
  • A strong and independent personality, with the ability to operate on significant issues with little supervision but being able to recognize which issues require support or escalation to the Head of Legal.
  • The capability to identify, work with and influence key internal and external stakeholders and be an effective and skilled communicator;
  • Experienced -in advising and working with senior stakeholders.
  • Recognises the importance of building effective relationships and establishing trust and a collaborative working relationship with colleagues both inside and outside of the Legal team; effectively manages and owns relationships with business colleagues and builds trust through collaboration.
  • Integrity and courage; ability to challenge effectively and to deliver tough messages.
  • Able to think laterally and has a track-record of delivering business-focused solutions.
  • Exercises good judgement and sound decision making even when not in possession of all the facts.
  • Is adaptable, welcomes change and challenge and plays an active role in designing and implementing novel solutions.
  • Ability to adapt and succeed against a background of change and uncertainty.
  • In house experience at either manufacturing or aerospace organisations.
