Senior Counsel (Hoogeveen)

Job summary

This Senior Legal Counsel shall provide legal advice and support to the Defense Airframe business line and operations in the Netherlands. This position will report directly to the Head of Legal – Defense and will work closely with the Defense Airframe Leadership in the UK and the Netherlands.  This role will support business strategy decisions, contract negotiations, disputes, industrial security, export control and other compliance issues.

Job responsibilities

• FAR/DFARS compliance and subcontract flowdowns, including training;
• International defense contracting, including consortium agreements;
• Commercial contracts and disputes;
• Commercial terms and conditions and risk analysis;
• Collaborate with GKN lawyers around the world to procure local laws advice when needed;
• Environmental Health and Safety;
• Real Estate;
• Support HR, Ethics, Security, and Export Control when needed;
• Internal investigations.

Job qualifications

• A juris doctor (JD) degree and an active license to practice law in the region where employed are required;
• 10+ years of experience as a licensed attorney, including in-house experience;
• Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program security requirements;
• Must be able to travel 25% of the time.

Preferred qualifications

• GKN Experience;
• 5+ years in-house experience at a government contractor preferred;
• The ability to win the confidence of key individuals through a comercial and pragmatic approuch, offering innovative ideeas and solutions - able to win people over, rather than directing people what to do;
• An approachable personal style with the ability to indetify the main value and risk issues and to resolve them effectively in line with the business case;
• Proven ability to provide clear, practical guidance offering innovative ideas and solutions;
• Proven ability to communicate acros an multi-national organisation, to build strong internal and external relationshipsand to establish oneself as a key member of the legal and commercial teams;
• Self-starter with a flexible but robust approach willing to “roll sleeves up” who is focused on execution and delivery and is able to stand one’s ground amongst strong personalities;
• Ability to deal with complex issues and simply the complicated;
• Commercially astute, with good judgment and ability to steer the business in the right direction form a risk perspective;
• Attention to detail;
• IT skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel).
