About the job

As our  Regional Six Sigma Black Belt (BB)you are a "High Calibre” data driven Problem Solver specialising in solving complex issues. You will train, coach and lead major breakthrough initiatives to successful completion and with that captures significant growth opportunities in the organisation. Additionally you play a key role in developing problem solving capability by training & coaching Six Sigma DMAIC Green Belts (GBs) and Site Six Sigma Black Belts (BBs) and problem solvers using the 8 Step A3 approach and DMAIC, where appropriate. You are our change agent and role model for leading change and Lean transformation, and being a candidate for Master Black Belt certification. In this position you report to the VP lean academy en are you part of a global team. Your focus is on the Europe and Asian sites

Your responsibilities

  • you are role modelling a culture that is aligned to the GKN Aerospace “Great Place to Work” value drivers and Culture Principles
  • You exemplify a safety-first mindset and ensuring that the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards are applied across GKNA 
  • You drive the disciplined and rigorous execution of complex data driven problem solving (Black Belt projects as well as Kaizen Events) as part of the LEM deployment across your assigned region of responsibility
  • You will provide training, coaching and certifying both Green Belts and Black Belts at the site level and in the Business Line teams, as appropriate
  • You display exemplary Lean Leadership behaviour
  • You are coaching projects to completion of their business case / targets
  • You are the delegated owner  of the Six Sigma DMAIC programme for their assigned region, including both capability building and sustainment as well as rigorous DMAIC application and execution
  • You will be delivering significant improvement in People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost (PSQDCC) targets, meeting your assigned area’s customer and stakeholder commitments, driven by execution of complex data driven problem solving
  • You develop DMAIC Expertise across your assigned region, ensuring that the region becomes self-sufficient in problem solving, working with the SLDLs and Site BBs to ensure that all staff requiring it are fully certified in problem solving at the appropriate level for their role
  • You comply with all legal and regulatory requirements and ensuring that staff are aware of the policies and their individual responsibilities and accountabilities: such as export control regulations, comliance & ethics policy on contracting the US government and Equal employment and affirmative action policies.


What do you need to be successful in this role?

  • You have a good educational background, although a degree is not mandatory
  • You have minimum of 10 years’ relevant business experience
  • A Six Sigma DMAIC BB Certification from a reputable certifying body or benchmark company. Otherwise, evidence of equivalency in practice and the commitment to GKNA certification (necessary to be achieved within 2 years of employment in the role)
  • You are Identified as an MBB candidate and capable to progress towards certification (target achievement within 4 years of employment in the role)
  • You have a proven understanding of Lean Thinking and Lean Leadership
  • You have the demonstrated ability to influence at the leadership teams and site management
  • You are a leader, coach and mentor for team members
  • You have excellent Project Management skills to be able to navigate through complex project stakeholder situations
  • You are an effective communicator and have the ability to build effective teams
  • Your passion is work for the change to a Lean Thinking organisation
  • You are willing to travel regularry to your assigned sites withing the region (75%)
