The Vacancy: Manufacturing Engineer FAI
GKN Aerospace is seeking a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer FAI to join the Assembly team of the Manufacturing Engineering department in Papendrecht, Netherlands. As FAI Engineer you are responsible for planning, executing, and documenting First Article Inspections to ensure that manufactured components meet design specifications and quality standards. This role is critical in validating production processes and ensuring compliance with customer and industry requirements such as AS9102.

Fokker Landing Gear
Fokker Landing Gear, part of GKN Fokker, is a recognized specialist in landing gear and related systems. We focus on the design and development, production and assembly of complete landing gears, as well as the repair and reassembly of systems already in use. In doing so, we work on the most famous aircraft and helicopters; think of the Apache combat helicopter, the F-35 Lightning II (JSF), the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 and the multipurpose NH90 maritime combat helicopter.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain the FAI-process according to AS9102,
- Preparation of FAIR plans: Identify requirements (including balloon drawings and characteristic matrix), determine the type of FAIR (full or delta), develop the FAIR control plan and select parts,
- Form 1, 2, and 3 completion. Validate test reports, certifications, and process documents,
- FAI planning liaison with ME’s, OPS, QC and Programme,
- FAIR plan approval by programs or customers, along with status reporting and updates,
- Clear communication of data collection points i.a.w. Quality Control Plan,
- Manage portfolio of new and backlog FAI parts,
- Process support,
- Metrics reporting.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Aerospace, Mechanical, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology),
- 5+ years’ experience in a regulated manufacturing industry (e.g. aerospace, medical equipment, etc.),
- Familiarity with materials, processes, and special processes relevant to high-precision metal manufacturing, with preference for aerospace industry experience,
- Hands-on experience with metrology tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges. Experience with CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) and software (Zeiss Calypso),
- Strong understanding of quality standards, inspection techniques, and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Pareto charts, histograms). AS9100, AS9102 and AS9145 standards training,
- Working knowledge of FAI software: NETInspect, DISCUS,
- Good understanding of GD&T (ISO1101/ASME Y14.5M),
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, operators and other team members (manufacturing, operations, design, suppliers, and customers). Organizational skills to manage multiple FAIRs in parallel. Ability to work under pressure with tight delivery timelines.
- Problem-solving and root cause analysis (for discrepancies found during FAI).
