Company background

The Fokker Elmo Engineering department is comprised of different disciplines in the Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) core business. This internship is related to the EWIS Components & Environmental testing (ECE) discipline of the Fokker Elmo Engineering department.
EWIS Components & Environmental testing (ECE): this discipline is mainly responsible for the (standard) parts, materials and constructions definition, selection and qualification (testing). This is the most critical for EWIS configurations in the most demanding environments, such as engines and landing gears.
The term EWIS covers all wiring harnesses (bundles) in a typical aircraft, which perform the function of power- and data transportation in between electrical equipment (from the generation of electrical power up to the individual electrical equipment of the different aircraft systems

What is the challenge?

Fokker Elmo is looking for a data management solution, which supports the following goals:
•    Management of part data for all parts used within Fokker Elmo EWIS constructions and parts
undergoing qualification.
•    Implementation of a query function, wherein individual parts / data columns can be summoned.

Task Description:
Over the years, Fokker Elmo has performed a large number of verification testing campaigns on EWIS constructions, generating a significant amount of performance data of the parts and materials present within these constructions. This has introduced a risk of data becoming hard to find / being lost over time. Which reduces traceability and results in re-testing. To combat this, Fokker Elmo is exploring the creation of an inhouse EWIS component & construction database, which will act as a knowledge storage and transfer center for all previously tested and new components. This database can be used to obtain part qualification, usage, and anomaly (errors) data quickly via the use of a query function.
