Job Summary

The Technology & Engineering (T&E) department of GKN/Fokker Landing Gear is seeking a Sustaining Engineer for the NH90 Helicopter program. This multidisciplinary role requires a blend of technical knowledge and organizational skills. Prior technical experience in aerospace or a comparable environment is preferred but not required.

The Department & Program
Fokker Landing Gear, part of GKN Aerospace, handles the design, development, production, assembly, and maintenance/overhaul (MRO) of complete landing gear systems and intermediate gearboxes for the NH90 helicopter. The T&E department manages all engineering activities, including new program proposals, system upgrades, manufacturing support, and end-user assistance. The NH90 Engineering team consists of experts in Stress, Design, Systems Engineering, and Integrated Logistic Support who collaborate to maintain the globally operating fleet.

What you'll do

  • Assess & Approve Dispositions: Evaluate non-conforming parts and production variations against functional, stress, and fatigue requirements. Review and sign off on resolutions proposed by suppliers or production engineers.
  • Solve Design Issues: Use root cause analysis and practical problem-solving to resolve qualified design anomalies and variations across product, assembly, and manufacturing data.
  • Implement Corrective Actions: Translate fixes into existing design definitions, and execute engineering changes to existing product lines. 
  • Manage Critical Schedules: Oversee and approve manufacturing production and planning schedules specifically for critical parts.
  • Support Operations & End-Users: Provide technical engineering expertise directly to the factory floor, customer support teams, and global end-users.
  • Collaborate Internationally: Work closely with the wider engineering team (Stress, Design, Systems, and Logistics) to review issues and maintain fleet readiness.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor or Master in Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A Critical and independent mind set.
  • Conscious of quality and applicable processes.
  • Experienced in writing of technical documentation in English.
  • Good analytical skills including experience in the area of Stress & Fatigue.

Nice to have

  • Affinity and experience with transmission gear boxes and related tribology aspects
  • Having work experience in a technical function in aerospace or a comparable environment.
  • A Knowledge of materials and processes, preferably in an aerospace environment, is desirable.
  • A Knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic (aerospace) components is desirable.
