Job Summary

This position will perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in a manufacturing environment on aircraft parts and assemblies to customer and internal requirements using various NDT methods with conventional and automated equipment. The NDT Tech III is a subject matter expert in a particular process or test method and typically certified to NDT Level 3, per NAS-410, or has special skills and additional responsibilities.
Perform NDT on aircraft parts and evaluate test results by analyzing and interpreting the data in accordance with customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities
  • Review and implement customer requirements; such as: Engineering Drawings, Process Specifications and other industry standards. Develop and maintain processes, test methodology and procedures. Understand manufacturing methods and part construction, as it relates to the NDT data.
  • Operate ultrasonic equipment; such as: a-scan & resonance scopes, phased array equipment and automated scanning systems. Operate x-ray equipment; such as: robotic scanners and computed radiography data acquisition systems.
  • Other test equipment may include: eddy current scopes and helium mass spectrometers.
  • Identify and investigate new technologies, processes and/or procedures to maintain or improve NDT capabilities, efficiencies, etc.
  • Interface with engineers, internal & external customers, manufacturing personnel and management to improve processes. Provide guidance, leadership and instruction to other NDT technicians.
  • Integrate improvements to realize benefits in cost, cycle, and customer satisfaction.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives, root cause analysis, and preventative measures to contribute to a safe environment.
  • Comply with GKN Code of Ethics, and customer and government requirements.
  • Performs other assignments and tasks as directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 years work experience in the NDT method(s) and manufacturing processes as a certified Level 2 is required.
  • Must be certified as NAS-410, Level 2 in one or more of the following NDT methods: Ultrasonic or Radiography.
  • Must be a US Citizen. Must comply with ITAR regulations and site SSA requirements.

Additional Qualifications:

  • GKN Experience
  • An active secret clearance is preferred, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Associate Degree of Applied Science in NDT - The classroom training for the applicable test method and level of certification needed must meet the minimum required per NAS-410
  • Employee must have the skills and formal training needed to become certified to NAS 410, level 3 in the applicable test method, and level 2 in radiography testing (RT) and ultrasonic testing (UT), and be able to pass an annual eye examination per the requirements of NAS 410.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of NDT theory, methods and procedures, and should have knowledge of NDT technologies, computer systems and conventional and automated testing systems.
  • Must have good written and verbal communications skills, and be able to work independently and work effectively as a team member.
  • Must be able to help aerospace engineers troubleshoot particular design issues. They must be able to help evaluate system capabilities, identify problems, formulate the right question, and then find the right answer.
  • Make and keep precise measurements and keep accurate records.
  • Must be able to take instructions and offer advice. The ability to work well with supervising engineers, other technicians, and mechanics is essential because technicians interact with people from other divisions, businesses, and customers.
  • Experience applying principles of mathematics for analysis, design, and troubleshooting tasks in their work.
  • Operating a personal computer with proficiency in related technical and specialized software. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, etc)
