Job Summary
Reporting to ME Director Serial Production – Civil, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer – UK, leads the development and deployment of global manufacturing initiatives (Zero Defects Manufacturing, Quality Improvement Programs, ME Capability Development) at a regional level (multiple sites)
Identify and execute cost reduction and quality improvement programs/projects to facilitate the achievement of Business targets (Quality and Cost) in said region.
In collaboration with local ME Leadership, assess regional sites industrial maturity and devise a roadmap to improve current maturity.
Coordinates through the use of structured problem solving, improvements to regional ME business processes.
Job Responsibilities
• Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.
• Ensures regional deployment of ME capability deployment efforts (Zero Defects Manufacturing, APQP, Six Sigma) and supports program continuous development
• Coach production and engineering teams in problem solving (PPS & 8D)
• Executes industrial maturity assessments in regional sites and develops plan to improve industrial efforts (layouts, capacity assessments, process capability).
• Identifies and executes opportunities to improve Business processes (ME Processes, Configuration and Data management) within the function
• Collaborates with site in the execution of quality and productivity related projects. Consolidates projects under regional improvement project portfolio
• Utilizes industry tools and frameworks (Six Sigma, Zero Defects Manufacturing) to assess process capability and deploy corrective actions
• Continuously improve business and manufacturing processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
• Support site ME team to advance the program from the NPI (New Product Introduction) Phase to a Steady State production phase as defined in the GKN Lifecycle Gate Process
• Maintain and develop positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace environment preferred
• Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• GKN Experience
• Knowledge of NC programming and machining methods preferred.
• Proficient computer skills Microsoft Office and NX Unigraphics.
• Prepared to work on the complete range of GKN Aerospace programs, both civil and military.
• Able to travel domestically or internationally as required.
• Application of Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean Management tools and techniques.
• Strong time management and project management skills.
• Good reporting and communication skills on project status and progress.
• Capable of interfacing professionally with customers and suppliers.
• Strong analytical abilities.
• Knowledge of Siemens Team Center preferred
• Expert knowledge of manufacturing operations & strategies.
• Able to demonstrate the ability to work, and deliver, under own initiative.
• Experience working with diverse skill sets.
• Good interpersonal team working skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
• Has the ability to work successfully within a matrix managed business, able to influence without direct authority.
