Job Summary

Project HSE Advisor will be based at our Luton site serving both our Civil and Defence business lines although there will be a focus on Defence projects, the incumbent will report to the EHS Manager in this 6 month fixed term contract role offering 24 hours a week on a part time basis. The Project HSE Advisor will support the management and development of Health, Safety and Environment for the site including compiling a robust Solvent Management Plan (SMP) for submission in line with our Local authority LAPPC emissions consent, finalising remaining equipment PUWERs and supporting projects in covering their HSE requirements as equipment and processes come on-line.


Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.


Job Responsibilities

  • Support the HSE Lead
  • Implement GKN Aerospace HSE policies and procedures throughout the site
  • Complete and maintain required HSE documentation including risk assessments
  • Report and manage all incidents on HSE data collection system
  • Provide reports as required on site HSE performance
  • Ensure accurate and complete tracking of internal HSE metrics, plans, recordkeeping and corrective actions
  • Ensure employees are trained and competent in relation to HSE
  • Ensure statutory compliance of the site
  • Set targets for site HSE performance
  • Support Health and Safety and Environmental site certifications as required
  • Support the HSE Audit function

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:


  • NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent
  • Significant HSE experience gained from a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of creating Solvent Management Plans according to Local Authority requirements
  • Experience of HSE legal requirements specific to manufacturing equipment including PUWER
  • Experience of working to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook


  • Aerospace industry experience 
  • Experience of manufacturing equipment EMF legal requirements
