Job Summary

We are looking to appoint two Product Quality Assurance Engineers, one on a permanent basis and one on a 12 month fixed term contract basis. As a Product Quality Assurance Engineer, you will be based at Luton site serving both our Defence and Civil Business lines although the focus will be on Defence projects, flexibility for quarterly team meetings, site visits and supplier meetings will be required. The incumbent will report to the Quality Systems Manager and assume responsibility for supporting and assuring Product Safety, Product Quality, Customer Satisfaction and GKN One Aerospace Quality Culture through zero defects quality planning, product realisation, delivery, delivery of customer support, supporting the organisation in risk management, problem solving and quality improvement projects. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Exemplify a Safety/Quality-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Cultural Principles, HSE and Quality policies and standards Assure and verify product quality planning, realization and delivery activities are completed in accordance with applicable requirements 
  • Support Program Management/IPT teams, acting as first line POC for Customer and Governmental Quality Representatives, including relationship management, coordinating product buy off, audits, quality related enquires and issue resolution
  • Support Site/Group/Team leaders in the development and nurturing of the site Quality Culture
  • Provide quality related support and advice to the organisation for the development / improvement / maintenance of Product Safety and Quality awareness through (unsolicited) consult/feedback and training
  • Ensure customer, regulatory and GKN system, product and process requirements are identified, documented appropriately (e.g. Program Quality Assurance Plans/Product Quality Control Plans), understood and implemented through effective means of compliance, meeting interested parties’ needs
  • Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing) teams to ensure design specifications and production process capabilities are aligned and to define effective process controls and unambiguous product acceptance criteria to enable and ensure product safety and zero defect delivery
  • Represent quality requirements within the Material Review Board (MRB)
  • Validate product conformity through the completion of internal First Article Activity packs (FAIR) as per AS9102
  • Support and assure the identification, understanding and effective mitigation of product and process related risks and opportunities for improvement  
  • Support and assure responsive and effective problem resolution through Containment, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action and Verification of Effectiveness

Essential:

  • Significant experience gained from a Quality Assurance role within a manufacturing environment
  • Product Quality Assurance and Improvement experience
  • Experience of non-conformance investigation techniques
  • Experience of ISO 9001
  • Auditing experience

 

Desirable:

  • A relevant BSc Degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Quality discipline
  • Auditor qualification or certification
  • Project and/or Programme Management experience
  • Experience of AS9110 or AS9100
  • Experience of Aviation Regulations EASA Part 145 or EASA Part 21G
  • New Product and Process Introduction (Industrialisation) experience
