Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 370+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.
 
The Maintenance Electrician will be based at our Luton site supporting our Civil and Defence business lines whilst reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager within our engineering department. The Maintenance Electrician will solve Electrical Maintenance issues utilising their understanding of Mechanical Systems to operate without supervision and to a safe standard. The person will be required to work a weekly alternating shift pattern: Shift A: Monday to Thursday 6am to 2pm and Friday 6am to 11am. Shift B: Monday to Thursday 2pm to 10pm Friday 11am to 4pm.

Job Responsibilities

•    Carry out inspections, maintenance and repair of the equipment involved in our manufacturing processes
•    Repair plant and equipment during break downs including fault finding
•    Assemble, install, test and commission new or replacement equipment
•    Carry out electrical maintenance works or repairs unsupervised monitoring performance
•    Monitor performance and efficiency of AHU’s ( air handling units ) 
•    Demonstrate extensive knowledge of electrical systems and power distribution systems rectifying faults to contactors, isolators, switches and associated equipment as necessary              
•    Carry out periodical servicing, checking and testing of plant and services in accordance with Planned Preventative Maintenance System (PPM)
•    Support existing development and production systems to ensure operational requirements are met
•    Fault find and rectify on single and three phase plant and systems
•    Ensure understanding of the relationship of other craftsmen’s work enabling work flexibly within the team 
•    Undertake new techniques as necessary
•    Undertake the safe use of maintenance equipment and portable tools
•    Instruct and advise others on aspects of electrical maintenance work as required
•    Assist with emergency work as and when requested including out of normal working hours
•    Carry out minor and assist with major planned preventative (PPM) work including checking, testing and information gathering
•    Carry out individual technical administration by the completion of works dockets
•    Work in confined spaces and at heights using engineering and building tools 
•    Follow the WED/Engineering procedures with respect to safety, security and fire policies
•    Work flexibly and take on new responsibilities with enthusiasm

What You'll Bring

Essential:

•    Significant experience gained from an Electrical Maintenance Engineering role within an industrial/manufacturing environment
•    Experience of electrical control systems, single phase and three phase power systems including rectifying faults
•    Experience of adhering to work place H&S policies and procedures
•    Experience of PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance)

Desirable:

•    Qualified to 18th Edition or a relevant HNC/HND such as Electrical Engineering
•    IPAF training 
•    Experience of mentoring or coaching more junior team members
•    Experience of PLC’s

This position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC) due to the nature and responsibilities of the work carried out. In order for us to obtain an SC you usually need to have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years to current date (but we do assess each case individually).
