Job Summary

The Lean Deployment Leader will be based at our Luton site serving both our Civil and Defence business lines and reporting to the Site Director whilst assuming responsibility for three direct reports, the role will offer the flexibility to work from home one day a week dependent on the needs of the business. The Lean Deployment Leader will play a central role in developing the site into a Lean enterprise based upon GKN Aerospace’s Lean Operating Model, the incumbent will lead, coach and influence their site’s Leadership Team, ensuring rigour and fidelity to the Lean Deployment roadmap. 

Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Role model a culture that is aligned to the GKN Aerospace “Great Place to Work” value drivers and Culture Principles 
  • Exemplify a safety-first mindset ensuring that the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards are applied across GKNA and that all locations are a model of a world class healthy and safe working environment 
  • Drive the disciplined and rigorous deployment of the Lean Operating Model (LOM) across the Performance Centre 
  • Create and execute against the Site Lean Deployment plan ensuring that all resources required are in place, both for site and for the CoE (e.g. Regional Lean Experts assigned as appropriate) 
  • Coach performance centres Leadership team in their deployment of the Lean Excellence Model 
  • Ensure the correct allocation of resources to make the Lean deployment a success ensuring problems are immediately visible and allowing problem solving to take place 
  • Deliver significant improvement in People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost (PSQDCC) targets meeting site customer and stakeholder commitments driven by significant improvements in Lean Maturity 
  • Develop deep Lean Expertise across site ensuring self-sufficiency in running the Lean Operating Model
  • Work with the Regional Lean Expert to ensure that all staff are fully certified in Lean Thinking at the appropriate level 
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements ensuring staff are aware of the policies and their individual responsibilities and accountabilities related to The company’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action policies, Compliance and Ethics Policy on Contracting with the United States Government in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government and Export Control regulations 

How You'll Contribute

  • Extensive experience gained from a dedicated Lean role within a highly regulated manufacturing environment such as the Pharmaceutical, Automotive or Aerospace industries 
  • Experience of deploying SQCDE  
  • Experience gained as part of a site leadership team
  • Line management and coaching experience of team members 


  • BSc Degree or equivalent in an Engineering or Scientific discipline 
  • Six Sigma certification from a reputable certifying body or benchmark company 
  • Experience in Lean Transformation 
  • Aerospace industry experience
