Job Summary

Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 370+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.
We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor to join our aerospace manufacturing team. Reporting to the HSE Lead, you will play a key role in driving a positive safety culture, supporting environmental sustainability initiatives, and ensuring compliance with legal and corporate requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an HSE professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams, influencing positive behaviours, and delivering practical solutions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. No two days are the same, and you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the safety, health and environmental performance of the site.
Core operational hours at our Luton site are: 07:30 - 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 - 12:30 Friday, earlier finish on Friday to start the weekend. There is the opportunity to work from home up to one day per week, subject to business needs.
Job Responsibilities
• Support the HSE Lead in the delivery of the site's Health, Safety and Environmental strategy and objectives.
• Promote and embed a positive HSE culture across all levels of the organisation through visible leadership and employee engagement.
• Implement and maintain company HSE policies, standards and procedures across the site.
• Provide professional HSE advice, guidance and support to managers, supervisors and employees.
• Facilitate and review risk assessments, safe systems of work and workplace inspections, ensuring effective controls are implemented.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, identifying root causes and driving corrective and preventive actions through to completion.
• Manage HSE reporting systems and ensure accurate and timely recording of incidents, audits, inspections and performance data.
• Produce and communicate HSE performance reports, trends and key metrics.
• Support compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and company standards.
• Coordinate and monitor HSE action plans, ensuring timely closure of corrective actions.
• Support internal and external audits, customer assessments and certification activities.
• Assist in maintaining ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems.
• Deliver and support HSE training, awareness campaigns and toolbox talks to enhance workforce competence and engagement.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance, environmental sustainability and operational excellence.
What You'll Bring

Essential:
• Experience in a Health, Safety and Environment role within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental management principles and legal requirements.
• Experience supporting risk assessments, incident investigations and compliance activities.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Desirable:
• Membership of IOSH and/or ISEP (formally IEMA)
• Experience within aerospace, automotive or other highly regulated manufacturing sectors.
• Internal auditor qualification or audit experience.
• Knowledge of ISO 50001 energy management systems.
• Experience of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Experience delivering training and presentations to groups
