Job Summary

Sitting within our Design Engineering team and based at our site in Luton with the flexibility to work from home for up to 1 day per week dependent on the needs of the business, the Design Engineer will be part of the wider GKN engineering community within the Civil Airframe business line which comprises of more than 400 engineers throughout the globe interlinking our capabilities and technology at a platform level.  Established in the 1940’s, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A320, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed Martin F-22 & F-35. The team is currently working on the next generation platforms with customers such as: Airbus, BAe and Leonardo.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the Technical Lead on projects from receipt of requirements through to manufacturing launch
  • Work to deliver regulatory, customer and GKN technical governance
  • Deliver technical work packages on time and in budget
  • Support technical reviews with the customer and formal internal cross-functional gate reviews with senior GKN management

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

Essential:

  • A BSc Degree or equivalent in a Scientific or Engineering discipline 
  • Significant design engineering experience gained within highly regulated manufacturing environment such as the Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, Energy or Automotive industries
  • Experience of developing and integrating with multi-disciplinary technical engineering project teams (Design/CM, EWIS, Analysis, M&P, Manufacturing/Industrialization)
  • Experience of translating technical information to a wider technical and none technical audience
  • Experience of problem solving using recognised toolsets
  • Experience of engaging with external customers and suppliers to understand requirements and build relationships


Desirable:

  • Experience of budget management and compliance
  • Experience of working to AS9145 standards
  • Experience of aerospace design processes including ARP4754/4761 and the tools/methods contained therein (or military equivalents)
  • Experience of aerospace regulatory requirements including 14 CFR Part 25 and 748/2012 and acceptable means of compliance (or military equivalents)
