Job Summary

As a Configuration Manufacturing Engineer, you will be based at our Luton site supporting our Defence and Civil business lines whilst reporting to the Head of ME, there is flexibility to work from home for up to 1 day per week dependent on the needs of the business. The Configuration Manufacturing Engineer will be accountable for managing the coordination and administration of configuration management activities as well as formulating procedures for and executing the introduction of changes to engineering and production documents, the incumbent will also monitor the review of released engineering change data and change documentation activities to ensure adherence to configuration management procedures and policies.

Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Exemplify a safety-first mind-set ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards
  • Provide support to programme teams in configuring and base-lining project items
  • Prepare configuration documentations and maintain Configuration Management (CM) database
  • Deploy CM standard and recommend improvements to existing CM processes
  • Maintain data quality, integrity and security of CM database
  • Schedule audits on CM database and assist in implementing audit recommendations
  • Develop data access security guidelines to avoid unauthorized damage or usage of programme and project configuration item 
  • Work with configuration teams in development and enhancement of CM tools
  • Assist in management, maintenance and automating of CM tools
  • Analyse configuration issues and propose appropriate resolutions
  • Continuously improve CM by implementing Lean initiatives

How You'll Contibute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

Essential:

  • Significant Configuration Engineering experience gained from a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of using SAP and managing related master data
  • Experience of working to business processes and practices
  • Experience of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000


Desirable:

  • A BSc Degree or equivalent in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical)
  • Experience of configuration management
  • Experience of ISO10007, MIL-HDBK-61A, EAI-649-1 or equivalent
  • Experience gained from a global organisation
  • Experience of working to LEAN processes and practices
