Job Summary

This role is to support the Aerospace business with respect to its legal matters, and, in collaboration with the GKN Aerospace Legal Team, to take a supporting role with respect to the businesses.  This role shall have a particular focus on Government Contracts, Supply Chain, and related contractual and legal compliance issues for all of GKN Aerospace. 

Job Responsibilities

  • You will support Engines US Senior Counsel by providing technically competent, timely advice. While you will be expected to support - in accordance with the Legal and Compliance Operating Model - on a wide variety of legal issues that arise in the Engines business line, the main focus of the role will be:
    • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex international contracts with both customers and suppliers
    • Advising on US government contracting and compliance, including FAR/DFARS.
    • Supporting the Commercial team on customer engagements and the Procurement / Supply Chain teams on supplier issues
    • Contentious matters with both customers and suppliers
    • Corporate governance, including some company secretarial matters
    • Regulatory issues
  • You will act as a local Legal contact point for Engines US sites.
  • You will support the Head of Legal – Engines and US Senior Counsel Engines on internal projects including reporting, training and risk management activities.
  • You will also support ad hoc on the following types of matters:
    • M&A
    • Employment
    • Product safety/HSE
    • Environmental
    • Real estate
    • Data protection
    • Investigations
    • Company secretarial
    • Compliance issues
    • You may have to work frequently with other members of the Legal and Compliance team or broader GKN Aerospace organization on a matrix basis.  You will need to be team-orientated, flexible and show sound judgement when dealing with organizational ambiguity
  • You will be accountable for owning your own development and adopting a growth mind-set; you will be open and willing to continuously improve your legal and non-legal skills
  • You will proactively seek opportunities to collaborate within and support the development of the Legal & Compliance function

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 4 year qualified lawyer, qualified in US (A juris doctor (JD) and an applicable state license to practice law are required.)
  • Must currently be a US-Licensed Attorney
  • Must have commercial litigation experience
  • Embraces and demonstrates the GKN 5 culture principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in US government contracting and compliance, including experience in FAR/DFAR.
  • Training at a recognized top tier law firm or in-house at a major MNC.
  • Proven experience in advising on a range of technical legal issues.
  • Ability to identify, focus, work on and prioritize key legal/compliance matters without day to day supervision.
  • Ability to recognize which issues need escalating to the Head of Legal or Senior Counsel.
  • Able to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice.
  • Collaborates within business and functions.
  • Integrity and courage; able to adapt own behavior and communication style to suit the context, including sensitively delivering tough messages.
  • Works with a range of stakeholders and ensures that their views and objectives are understood and expectations are managed.
  • Communicates clearly, accurately, confidently and concisely in a timely manner.
