Location: Helmond, NL

Company: GKN Aerospace Careers

About us

Fokker Landing Gear is part of GKN Aerospace and is active in the field of Landing Gear and related systems and the intermediate gearbox of the NH90 Helicopter. This includes the design and development, production and assembly of complete Landing Gear systems, but also the maintenance, repair and overhaul of systems in use. Fokker LG is with her ± 350 employees active in the F16 Fighter Aircraft, the Apache Combat helicopter, the F35 Lightning II (JSF), the MQ-9 Reaper, the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 and the multipurpose NH90 Helicopter. For a Dutch aviation company of this size we have a unique position in the JSF program in particular, acquired on the basis of our design and development capabilities. In addition, Fokker LG is involved for over 15 years in the development of technologies for the application of Polymer Matrix composite material on components of landing gears.
The T&E-department is responsible for all engineering related activities which are carried out under the responsibility of FLG. This includes the preparation of proposals for new programs, the development of new LG-systems, the improvement of existing LG-systems and the support to the operations department (e.g. in case of product deviation from drawing) or the end user.
To perform these activities the T&E-department has, apart from the required knowledge and experience, access to state-of-the-art tools for CAD (design) and CAE (stress and fatigue and multi-body dynamics) and a test lab where development- and certification/qualification tests are performed.

You are pro-active, self-starting and entrepreneurial, have good communication skills and you are a team player. You have worked before in a multidisciplinary environment and are familiar with production engineering, testing and certification. You are willing to learn and are able to arrange things.

Job Summary

The department Technology & Engineering (T&E) of GKN/Fokker Landing Gear (FLG) is in search of a Senior Development Engineer for the Engineering Sustaining and Support team. The function concerns a multidisciplinary role for which not only extensive technical knowledge but also organizational skills are required. Experience in a technical function in aerospace or a comparable environment is a recommendation but not required.

The Engineering Team Lead (ETL) is the final responsible for the technical contents of the project. The engineering team that reports to the ETL consists of several (senior) Development Engineers who are responsible for one of the engineering disciplines within the project:
•    Product development
•    Stress and fatigue
•    Performance and loads
•    ILS and safety
•    Testing

Development engineers perform their activities in an engineering team, therefore there is a lot of interaction between the different disciplines within the team. This results in a dynamic working environment with a common goal to get an optimum solution for the product under development which complies with the applicable requirements.
