About the job

As a Group Leader, you manage team leaders, and you will be responsible for GKN Fokkers facility in Helmond trough closing and de-commissioning. After the closing and de-commissioning phase, you will join the Landing Gear team in Papendrecht, developing the Landing Gear organization there further. As the Group Leader, you directly manage a team of team leaders and indirectly over 100 ? Operators and Inspectors. Together with the team leaders, the Group Leader ensures that, everyone is able to perform his/her work to the required standard. You support and guide the team leaders in Lean, continuous improvements and solving problems.
Safety is our top priority and you are a role model in this. You are responsible for on-time delivery and improving performance through engaging employees in activities to improve productivity and quality of the products. In this position, you work together with multidisciplinary teams (colleagues from different functions such as work preparation, engineering, technical service) to achieve the objectives.


GKN Fokker Landing Gear is a site in transition. The desired schedule means that the last department will move to Papendrecht at the end of Q4 2023. A central site will be realized in Papendrecht, where both the production activities of Helmond (Landing Gear) and Hoogerheide (cable harnesses) will be transferred. The main challenges for the site are promoting employee engagement, advancing production and streamlining processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for achieving the People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost (PSQDCC) objectives through the disciplined application of the Lean Operating Model. This includes Master Schedule Adherence (delivery on time) and aiming for Zero Defects against the set budgets/demand of the programs.
  • Creating and maintaining a culture based on the GKN Aerospace "Great Place To Work", safety, respect and caring, open and honest, innovative, ownership.
  • Coaching and developing Team Leaders.
  • Watch over the correct implementation of health, safety and environmental policy GKN Aerospace.
  • Be actively involved in solving problems using a 'Go to Gemba' approach with the ambition that 98% of the problems can be solved within the area itself.
  • Contribute to the site's strategy through the Hoshin Kanri process (strategy implementation) and ensure its implementation in their assigned areas
  • Owning the common site interest, actively cooperating with other Group Leaders and seeking out the collaborations, activities and goals to ensure the best results for the entire site.
  • Ensure disciplined execution of Daily Management and standardized work through strict adherence to Leader Standard Work.
  • Directing and facilitating the involvement of all team members, ensuring that engagement actions are defined, implemented and followed up.

Job Qualifications

As a Group Leader you have a proven track record of achieving results in a changing environment, you have a keen eye for continuous improvement and you can develop teams through intensive coaching. You are able to apply structure, persevere and make it happen.

  • People-oriented; developing people, making and keeping them accountable, rewarding top performance individually and taking action on underperforming.
  • Manage processes: keeping agreements about how we do things. What is the standard? and how can we improve the standard?
  • Continuous improvement, always looking, how can we do it be better. What does it take to deliver more, have less quality problems?
  • Above all: ownership of your unit. Not “waiting for” but actively looking for.

Skills and competences

  • A completed Bachelor's/Master's degree, preferably related to engineering (eg mechanical engineering, aerospace or TPM).
  • The ability to lead, coach and develop Team Leaders and Team Members.
  • Work consistently on standards as defined in the site Business/Quality Management System (B/QMS).
  • Command of the English language (written and oral).
  • Experience with a Lean Operating Model / Production System.
  • A passion for the aerospace industry.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Manufacturing/MRO operations and management and demonstrable experience in improving processes within an operations environment.
