For the Technology & Engineering (T&E) department of GKN/Fokker Landing Gear, we are looking for a pragmatic Stress/Development Engineer. The T&E department is responsible for all GKN engineering related activities related to Landing Gears and Arresting Gear. This includes the preparation of proposals for new programs, the development of new Landing and Arresting Gear systems, the improvement of existing systems and the support to the operations department, the maintenance repair and overhaul team, and the end user. It’s a multi discipline- Engineering team, which resulted in a dynamic working environment.

You are

pro-active, self-starting and entrepreneurial, have good communication skills and you are a team player. You like to work in a multidisciplinary environment and are familiar with technology development, production engineering, testing and certification. You are willing to learn and are able to arrange things.

Job Responsibilities

Part of the function will be supporting the Nh90 team as a stress engineer. As a Stress Engineer your most important responsibilities are all activities concerning:

  • Performing and reporting of static strength and fatigue calculations/simulation of landing gear systems.
  • Support the justification of design changes.
  • Analyse the effect of non-conformities.
  • Analyse the effects of load changes.
  • Keeping technical documentation up to date.

    Next to the work for Nh90 program, you will be asked to support the rest of the department with more specialized development/stress activities. This can be;
  • Taking part in improvement projects to increase the (analyses) capabilities within our team.
  • Supporting the Technology team with the development of new (composite) technologies
  • Supporting other GKN sites with specialized analyses capabilities
  • Supporting the T&E team and GKN/FLG production site with Material & Process (M&P) related issues.

Your profile

  • Master or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Good analytical skills in combination with a practical attitude.
  • Affinity with complex technical systems like landing gear.
  • Critical mind-set / conscious of quality.
  • Capable of writing technical documentation in English.
  • Knowledge of materials and processes, preferably in an aerospace environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic (aerospace) components is a recommendation.
  • Experience with static strength & fatigue analyses (both with hand calculations and the finite element methods)
  • Experience with the finite element package Abaqus
  • Experience with MathCad and Matlab is a pre.
