Job Summary

Candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining all equipment related to the vapor deposition vacuum chamber and its support equipment.  Applicant will be responsible for maintain records of the targets, determine when cryogenic pumps need to be changed out, implement and maintain a preventative maintenance plan and lead all troubleshooting and repairs associated with the vacuum chamber to ensure it is running at peak performance with minimal unscheduled downtime. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting all issues with the vacuum chamber pumps, drives, gearboxes, mechanical roughening pump, motion control system, software and computer hardware.
  • Support training of new vacuum chamber operators and lead the certification process.
  • Create standard work and daily TPM procedures.
  • Track inventory of all targets used in the chamber and coordinate the shipment to suppliers when required for replacement.
  • Identifying non-conformance causes related to the vacuum chamber and implementing strong corrective actions.
  • Lead the effort of repairs by coordinating with the maintenance department to schedule all preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment change outs.
  • Work with SMF coating engineer to ensure all documentation is properly updated and accurate.
  • Maintain ladder logic programming to ensure all processes are completed according to the frozen manufacturing plan.
  • Make any improvements to the equipment to increase capacity.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years experience as a vacuum technician.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.
  • Active Security Clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Speak and write Spanish
  • Strong computer skills 
  • Excellent vacuum chamber principles and a good understanding of vacuum pressure in the Torr / mTorr ranges.
  • Excellent communications skills: Both written and written.
  • Ability to organize and implement multiple concurrent tasks
  • Experience with optics, specifically in thermoplastics. 
  • Material properties and material processing of acrylic background.
  • Self motivated individual that can work with minimal instruction.
  • Able to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Able to troubleshoot ladder logic PLC’s and update as required.
  • Must have a good hands on mechanical aptitude.
