Job Summary
As a Tool Design Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating, inspecting, and designing manufacturing tooling (i.e. jigs, dies and fixtures) through the use of 3D modeling software such as Catia and Siemens NX. Tool Design Engineers also provide technical expertise at a local project level for operational and development Programs, to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills. This scope is specific to a work transfer scope within a new facility in Garden Grove, CA.
Job Responsibilities
- Tool Design Engineers are accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
- Tool Design Engineers provide local project technical oversight for the development of tooling solutions to complex problems through:
- Technical lead on the implementation of tooling, from original concept through to production. Design this tooling for high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such.
- Implement the global process for tool fabrication quotes, tooling input for new product quotes, tooling configuration changes that involve cost estimation, schedule coordination, and implementation
- Experience with utilizing either CATIA and/or NX (Siemens/UG) for tooling evaluation, inspection and design of complex tooling.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in mechanical, design, manufacturing, or related fields of study.
- 5 (five) years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, which includes experience with NPI (New Product Introduction), a start-up facility, and/or a work transfer in a manufacturing environment, preferably in Manufacturing Engineering in aerospace.
- Knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000.
- Fluent in English language, both written and spoken.
- US Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance / site SSA requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in CATIA and/or NX (Siemens/UG)
- Project / Program Management experience.
- Familiarity with AS9145 APQP process or equivalent.
- Has experience with NPI (New Product Introduction), a start-up facility, and/or a work transfer in a manufacturing environment, preferably in Manufacturing Engineering in aerospace.
- For internal candidates, they must be a certified Zero Defect Practitioner and 6σ Green Belt. External candidates to demonstrate equivalent capability in problem solving and process control.
