Salary Range: $111,366 - $89,093

Job Summary

The Quality System Engineer (QSE) will be responsible for supporting the company’s efforts to drive a proactive culture of consistent compliance, as well as being a catalyst for change and continuous improvement. This position will provide key contributions to the Quality Management System (QMS)to transform the QMS to a Business Management System (BMS) that operates efficiently and effectively for the site. The Quality Systems Engineer will lead site activities to maintain the siteAS9100 certification and all customer certifications, work with the Certifying Bodies and customer representatives, and facilitate the compliance audits.


The QSE is also responsible for documenting, implementing and assuring site and GKN Aerospace quality program policies, plans, and requirements. Providing quality oriented leadership in achieving plan objectives. Ensuring policies and procedures are current and accurate, maintained by all functional organizations and integrated in all site activities. Aligning site procedures with GKN Aerospace corporate policies. The QSE uses data to improve performance of Key Process Indicators, customer satisfaction, and identifies continual improvement opportunities

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in achieving plant quality objectives. Conduct effective quality meetings on a regular basis providing for quality information exchange among functional departments and GKN Aerospace.
  • Review government and customer requirements to assure site quality practices and procedures are compliant.
  • Lead the organization to define, document, implement, manage and continually improve the GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems (GKN-ATS) Quality Management System
  • Assist QMS document authors as needed with improvements to current procedures or in the development of new procedures.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with other GKN Aerospace sites on QMS/BMS improvement and certification activities.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining the Corrective Action system for both internal and customer corrective actions. Investigate and address customer complaints regarding quality. Maintain detailed performance metrics on Corrective Action system performance.
  • Maintain the calibration system to ensure all tools and equipment are calibrated in accordance with GKN, customer and regulatory requirements. Maintain detailed performance metrics on the compliance of the calibration process.
  • Track customer quality scorecards, address customer nonconformance findings, maintain customer portals, and facilitate responses to customer corrective actions. Maintain customer satisfaction metrics.
  • Oversee the internal audit program. Develop the annual audit plan, track execution and ensure all internal audits are performed in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements. Develop and maintain detailed metrics regarding performance and compliance. Perform internal audits.
  • Acts as the company’s primary point of contact for customers, suppliers, and regulatory personnel regarding quality issues or questions. Answer customer surveys.
  • Create first article packages for new and revised products in accordance with AS9102. Review and approve first articles on procured components. Maintain documentation for all first article packages in Teamcenter PDLM system. Maintain metrics on the FAI process.
  • Write/revise internal procedures and instructions. Regularly review functional procedures to ensure they are being maintained in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements. Maintain detailed metrics on the accuracy and maintenance of documented information.
  • Represent GKN with credibility, confidence and professionalism.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the GKN-ATS FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) program.
  • Develop and deliver training to teams
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other Quality duties, as assigned

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/STEM/Business Administration or a related technical discipline(Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Industrial)
  • 5 (Five) years’ experience of investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
  • 5 (Five) years’ experience manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross-functional teams simultaneously.
  • 2(Two) years working directly with AS9100 from a Quality Systems prospective.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action. 
  • Ability to analyze and present data to all levels of leadership.
  • U.S. Citizen per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements.
