Job Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for the functional management of quality engineering and inspection teams. The Quality Manager directly oversees a team of Quality Engineers and Quality Inspectors and reports directly to the Quality Director.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality and inspection processes are adequate and appropriate to ensure delivered product quality; both internally between departments, and externally to customers
  • Analyze customer and regulatory requirements (e.g. engineering data, specifications, test plans, FAR, AS9100,etc.) to ensure quality and inspection processes are compliant
  • Work with leadership team to establish key business processes, document them effectively, and ensure that inputs and outputs are measured appropriately
  • Support customer and 3rd party QMS audits
  • Verify QMS compliance throughout the organization
  • Drive continuous improvement in internal and external Quality measures and metrics
  • Support implementation and effectiveness of Quality Systems including:
    • Corrective Action System/Corrective Action Board
    • Internal & External Audit
    • Calibration
  • Document requirements using structured problem solving tools (e.g. requirements matrix) to support problem resolution
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture
  • Develop and foster strong internal relationships throughout the organization to identify and resolve quality issues
  • Identify and implement quality improvements to reduce product defects and/or improve process efficiency
  • Identify non-conformance causes and implement robust corrective actions
  • Coordinate several process improvement, cost reduction and/or defect reduction projects. This includes using Lean Manufacturing techniques as well as Process Validation, Root Cause Analysis and Six Sigma Problem Solving skills.
  • Direct management of Quality Engineers, overseeing daily activities and establishing/measuring long term goals and objectives
  • Functional management of unionized Quality Inspectors. Inspectors are enrolled to the Quality Manager, but are assigned to operations for daily tasks and work scheduling.
     

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering or similar required.
  • 5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment, including 2+ years of quality management/supervisory/leadership experience as well as some aerospace industry experience required.
  • Must be U.S. Person in compliance with U.S. ITAR regulations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of AS9100, Rev D and FAA requirements highly preferred
  • Structured problem solving tools (PFMEA, DOE, 5-why, etc.).
  • Internal audit training/experience and statistical analysis experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with micrographic and/or chemical analysis of defects in acrylics or polymers.
  • Proficient with product analysis in a model based definition (CATIA V5, UGNX, etc.) environment.
  • Technical problem solving for processing anomalies or optical defects in acrylic and/or glass laminated assemblies.
  • Experience in Six Sigma principles.
  • Skills with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint); advanced skills with Excel, plus Minitab and Visual Basic preferred.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to organize and implement multiple concurrent tasks.
