Job Summary

The Program manager is responsible for the execution of the business case and contract in line with requirements and the agreed scope. This includes New Product Introduction (NPI) activities up to and including Lifecycle Gate 7 and with on-going management activities of the program from Lifecycle Gate 7 and beyond. 
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the program interface to the customer – facilitate the appropriate internal functions to interface with appropriate counterparts at the customer. Field majority of customer communication including technical, schedule and commercial issues or requirements.
  • Coordination and development of cost, schedule and compliance for bids and proposals in conjunction with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) – work with the GKN Parent and within the SSA to grow program presence with the customer
  • Engage internal resources to ensure completion of the program on schedule; manage Tier schedules to ensure both sufficient level of detail for on-time execution, as well as rolled up summaries for organizational alignment. Gain commitments from functional leaders for the needed resource allocations in a matrix environment.
  • Communicate the program requirements and goals to each person within the IPT, set and maintain consistent expectations, highlight and support the removal of roadblocks within the given parameters of the organization.
  • Monitor and manage program performance, document and work with the team to solve problems that arise, ensuring that the program remains on schedule and delivers a high-quality product to the customer on-time, and within budget. 
  • Monitor, track and manage any program changes through Change Control Board. Ensure that customer-generated costs are captured, documented and communicated for appropriate actions.
  • Creates Program Improvement Plans including cost improvement, pricing initiatives, enable Zero Defects Manufacturing, redesign initiatives, gaining agreement with relevant stakeholders.
  • Provides input to make, move, buy decisions and strategic procurement decisions.
  • Supports the Program Director and Vice President in defining the vision, strategy, budget for the program to optimize cash flow, profitability and growth.
  • Adheres to all program management standards and policies in accordance with the GKN Aerospace Program Management framework and contribute to process development. 
  • Actively executes Risk, Issue and Opportunity Management to control and mitigate the risk exposure and take advantage of opportunities.
  • Responsible for updating Sales / Demand Plan and initiating demand management for serial purchase orders.
  • Prepared to perform duties outside of direct job description in order to meet program commitments.
  • Ability to lead and manage direct reports including performance reviews and development objectives

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline, or related fields of engineering; will consider 8 years of minimum experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of Program or Program Management Experience.
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements

Preferred Qualification

  • 3+ years of experience working on Civil Aircraft program.
  • Knowledge of Program Management, Risk Management, and MS Project
  • Ability to create, manage and execute a project plan.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to achieve by influencing others.
  • Experience in commercial, engineering or operations within the Aerospace industry.
  • Ability to build relationships with customers and other external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or aerospace strongly preferred.
  • High Rate Production Program experience.
  • Financial acumen.
  • Experience working inside an SSA organization
  • Either completed or registered for acknowledged Program Management Certification.
  • Understanding of the concept of business cases / models
