Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, provides on-site first aid medical treatment, coordinate FAA/DOT related regulatory compliance on-site drug testing requirements; OSHA/Workers Compensation case follow-up and coordinates referrals to company contract medical facility as necessary, including training and development of the volunteer Emergency Response Team.

Job Responsibilities

1) Provides on-site nursing care for employee injuries and illnesses and refers to outside medical care, as determined appropriate.

2) Conducts, along with outside medical facility, pre-employment physicals, including drug screens and, when required, random, post-accident and surveillance drug and alcohol testing.

3) Administers company policy on substance abuse, including:  drug testing, interim counsel and referral, records retention, and provides recommendations regarding personnel actions.  Assures company's compliance with government regulatory requirements.

4) Audits for completeness, all paperwork generated by outside medical facility related to company referrals.

5) Informs employees of workers' compensation procedures, including referral to personal physician if illness/injury is non-occupational.

6) Maintains and updates medical records, including a log of occupational illness and injuries, and appropriate other documentation to assure compliance with applicable state and federal laws.  Assists with preparing and filing monthly OSHA report.

7) Documents first report of job related injuries and illnesses.

8) Coordinates company wellness programs, including conducting education programs, health screening programs and disseminating wellness information, i.e., news articles, etc.

9) Recommends, orders and stocks necessary medical supplies.

10) Collaborates with the Director of Human Resources and the Safety Manager in developing health services philosophy, goals, and objectives.  Assists in developing and implementing program evaluations.

11) Monitors OSHA requirements and NIOSH recommendations and keeps management informed.  Evaluates the work environment.

12) Establishes and promotes working relationships with appropriate community agencies.

13) Ensures the company's commitment to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment through the establishment and support of Company policy and adherence to various government regulations.

14)  Fully complies with the "GKN Aerospace, Inc. Policy Statement on Contracting with the United States Government" in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government.  Ensure subordinate staff is aware of the policy and their individual responsibility and accountability for complying with it.

15)  Performs daily preventative maintenance of equipment in adherence with a predefined schedule.

16) Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

Requires a LVN licensure with current California certification and 5-6 years experience with 2 years experience as an occupational nurse, or RN's license and 2 years experience in occupational, emergency, and/or urgent care, including triage, in a manufacturing environment.  A BSN and certification as an occupational health nurse (COHN) is preferred.  Must possess a broad knowledge of general nursing and skills in decision-making, problem solving and independent nursing judgment.  Certifications in audiometry and spirometry preferred.  Must be able to operate a personal computer and be familiar with data base system, word processing, etc.  Some knowledge of workers' compensation is a plus.  Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to interact with employees and various levels of management.
