Job Summary

Based here in our thriving East Cowes facilities, and reporting into the Facilities Projects Contractor Manager, the Facilities Project Contractor Chaperone will be responsible for carrying out the required standard activities of their assigned tasks, in full compliance to the Work Instruction and/or Standard Operating Procedure, and without compromise to their own, and colleagues, safety, essentially being responsible for the collection/delivery of contractors from the main gate, and chaperone them whilst moving around the site to their place of work.

 

They will be expected to actively identify any safety concerns (Hazard identification), make problems immediately known to their Manager, and raise improvement ideas to solve problems (Kaizen).

 

They will be fully supported by Facilities Projects Contractor Manager who will enable their training, coaching and quickly respond to them if they find any off-standard/quality issues, and will be part of a team that will collectively work on creating a ‘Great Place to Work’ through a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and open dialogue

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Communicate at start of shift with the Facilities Project Contractor Manager to determine tasks for the day.
  • Chaperone contractors from the gatehouse to their place of work onsite.
  • Assist contractors with safe parking of vehicles and access to job site buildings.
  • Monitor contractor’s activity whilst working at job sites and escalate any issues if required.
  • Assist Facilities Projects Contractor Manager and contractors with delivery/collection tasks.
  • Carry out any other tasks associated with supporting contractors working on site as instructed by the Facilities Projects Contractor Manager.
  • Hold themselves, and fellow team members accountable to embody the GKNA culture principles.
  • Undertake all of their tasks in compliance with the standard work and their training, and make any problems; safety, quality, or other, immediately known to their manager.
  • Exemplify a safety-first mind-set and follow all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards. Ensuring Contractors follow the site Golden safety rules at all times.
  • Implement at least 1 Kaizen per month (Continuous improvement).
  • Be an active member of the team, promoting collective engagement with each other. Be part of the Monthly Engage Me meetings.
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements

 

Job Qualifications

 

Suitable candidates must be able to demonstrate:

 

Essential:

  • Previous experience working within a facilities or maintenance background.
  • Strong understanding of HSE, and a safety mind-set.
  • Familiarity with RAMS;
  • Committed to the rigorous adherence of standardised and high quality work.
  • Good standard of language relevant for the site.
  • Self-motivated, flexible and an effective communicator
  • Willingness and ability to work out of hours when required (potentially some weekends)

Desirable:

  • Site buildings layout knowledge
  • B1 Forklift Licence
  • A track record of Kazien implementation.
  • A passion for the Aerospace Industry.
