Job Summary

Based in our busy aerospace manufacturing facilities here in East Cowes, the 5 Axis Operator/CNC Machinist will be responsible for carrying out the required standard activities of their assigned tasks, in full compliance to the Work Instruction and/or Standard Operating Procedure, and without compromise to their own, and colleagues, safety.

Previous 5 Axis experience would be ideal, however this role could also be an opportunity for suitably qualified people with experience of CNC machining, now looking to develop their skills into 5 Axis operation.

Where required to achieve 'certified' status, the team member will be taught how to undertake their tasks safely, and to a high quality level, through a rigorous Job Instruction process, and will be expected to attain the relevant certification, as measured by the competence matrix and specified in the site's BMS/QMS.

The team member will be fully supported by their Team Leader (TL), who will enable their continuous training, coaching etc., and quickly respond to them if they find any off-standard / quality issues.

They will be expected to actively identify safety concerns (Hazard identification), make problems immediately known to their TL (Pull the Andon), and raise improvement ideas to solve problems (Kaizen).

They will be part of a team that will collectively work on creating a "Great Place To Work" through a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and open dialogue.

Job Responsibilities

This position involves machining to stringent tolerances in order to meet the required specifications, as used in the tightly governed aerospace industry. In this role you will be responsible for the fixture and tool setting, including programme loading and operating controllers for various 5 Axis machining centres. Typical equipment to be operated will include 5 Axis machines so experience with this type of machine would be advantageous, although machine-specific training will be given to the successful candidates. Your main priority is to ensure that all aspects of the machining process conform to the required quality and health and safety standards

Job Qualifications

Suitable candidates will be able to demonstrate:

Essential Requirements

  • Must have served a recognised engineering apprenticeship (Level 3) in a discipline such as Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Craft Studies, and be knowledgeable of all aspects of CNC machining
  • Evidence of apprenticeship or qualifications gained during apprenticeship must be produced at time of application.
  • Availability to work all shift patterns and overtime (subject to business needs) – additional premiums payable

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous workplace experience of using CNC/5 Axis machines
  • The successful applicants will ideally hold current overhead crane and forklift licences. (This is not essential as training can be given).
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to consistently deliver a high standard of workmanship, ensuring customer requirements are met.
  • Working as part of a close-knit team, strong communication and organisational skills are required

We’ll offer you fantastic challenges and amazing opportunities. This is your chance to be part of an organisation that has proven itself to be at the cutting edge of our industry; and is committed to pushing the boundaries even further.  And with some of the best training on offer in the industry, who knows how far you can go?
