Job Summary
A very interesting opportunity has arisen within our thriving East Cowes facilities for someone from a skilled aircraft fitting background to join our training team.
This could be a full time permanent role, or an ideal opportunity for two part-time people to job share.
In this role you will train to become a qualified NVQ assessor, and support the ongoing practical training for our Craft Apprentices, Skilled Aircraft Fitters, and aircraft fitters on our "Allied Trades" programme.
In order to be qualified for this role you will need to be an experienced aircraft fitter, supported by evidence of 2-4 year, time-served apprenticeship and/or certification in relevant qualifications, together with being PC literate, and have an enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge with others
Job Responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Practical skills test for ongoing reviews of competence with our CAO stamp holders;
- Leading classroom-based training for the theoretical aspects of aircraft fitting;
- Creating and developing new practical training techniques for aircraft fitting;
- Supporting the Learning Administrator with the development or training plans and packs;
- Leading continuous improvement and problem solving activities;
- Support with setting up assessments and interviews as part of the recruitment process, carrying out subsequent skills tests, and grading performance using a standard scoring matrix;
- Developing and coaching new and underperforming Operators to the required standard;
- Providing bespoke aircraft fitting training to new learners;
- Track and provide regular reviews of progress of learners;
- Undertaking all tasks in compliance with standard work and the training provided;
- Making any problems (safety, quality, or other) immediately known to the Team Leader or Inspector;
- Holding themselves and fellow team members accountable to the 5 GKNA culture principles (Safe, Respect & Care, Open & Honest, Innovative, Ownership);
- Complying with all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards;
- Being an active Team member, contributing to team engagement activities, and help create a ‘Great Place to Work’ through supporting a safe working environment, problem solving and supporting colleagues.
Job Qualifications
Suitable candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Demonstrable previous experience as a skilled aircraft fitter, supported by evidence of 2-4 year, time-served apprenticeship and/or certification in relevant qualifications ;
- Willingness and ability to become a qualified NVQ assessor;
- PC literate, with the ability to support with the creation of training material;
- Strong communicator with an enthusiasm for teaching and developing others.
