Sitting across our three business lines; Civil, Defence and Engines at our East Cowes manufacturing plants you’ll do just that. Established in 1901, one of our older production sites with a workforce of circa 800 employees. Our East Cowes plants, Isle of Wight are where we design, manufacture, test and repair high performance structures and systems. We have two facilities on the Island; Falcon Yard, Ferry Road and Osborne Site, Saunders Way. Both locations employ the company’s distinct competencies in major assemblies and composite structures for the global aerospace market. Our customer base includes Airbus, Astronics, BAE Systems, Boeing, Bombardier Aerospace, Cessna, Cobham, Honeywell, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce and Triumph.
Job Summary
Continued growth in our programmes have created a number of exciting training opportunities for appropriately qualified personnel, looking to convert their previous experience and skilled status in an ‘allied trade’ to train as skilled Aircraft Fitters. Successful applicants will join our 2 year programme which will provide ‘on the job’ training and development across a wide range of manufacturing processes within our production areas. Additionally, successful applicants will be required to undertake a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering in partnership with the Isle of Wight College. During the training period, participants will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence.
Skilled aircraft fitters put together the components and sub-assemblies that go into the aircraft at our customers’ final assembly lines. Aircraft Fitters work to engineering instructions and drawings and will use skills including:
- Drilling, reaming and countersinking
- Installing a range of different fasteners
- Applying sealants
- Functional testing of mechanical systems

Essential:
- Provide evidence of a served and recognised apprenticeship in an appropriate allied trade; examples include 5 Axis Operators, Jig Erectors, Machinists, Fabricators, Blacksmiths, Gas Fitters, Plumbers, Welders, Sheet Metal Workers, Toolmakers, Air Conditioning Fitters, Coppersmiths, Pipe Fitters, Platers, Coach Fitters, Mechanics (Motor), Fitters (Agricultural/HMG/Marine).
