Job Summary

GKN Aerospace Cromwell has recently established a non-destructive testing (NDT) laboratory in our Wallingford, Connecticut site with state-of-the-art ultrasonic testing (UT) and digital radiography (DR) equipment. The Level II NDT Technician is responsible for performing advanced NDT inspections in the UT and DR methods, setting up and calibrating equipment, interpreting test results, documenting findings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct non-destructive testing on aerospace components and structures using assigned NDT techniques, following established procedures and quality standards.
  • Set up and calibrate NDT equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and industry standards, ensuring accurate test results.
  • Analyse inspection data, identify defects or anomalies, and determine their severity based on established acceptance criteria.
  • Accurately document inspection findings, including detailed reports with clear descriptions of defects, locations, and severity levels.
  • Adhere to quality control procedures, maintaining proper documentation and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Understand and apply relevant NDT codes, standards, and specifications related to the required method(s).
  • May provide guidance and training to Level I technicians on NDT procedures and techniques.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED needed. MUST be able to validate HS Diploma or GED prior to acceptance of an offer
  • U.S. Citizen per site SSA requirements
  • Must hold a valid Level II certification in UT or RT from a recognized certification body.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining NDT equipment, including proper handling and safety procedures.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to identify inspection areas and requirements.
  • Strong analytical ability to accurately interpret test results and identify potential defects.
  • High level of precision and accuracy in performing inspections and documenting findings.
  • Prolonged standing and have the ability to move around a manufacturing environment.
  • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., using proper lifting techniques.
  • Have knowledge of and be able to perform basic shop mathematics.
  • Have knowledge of and be able to use basic dimensional inspection equipment (e.g. calipers, scale/ruler, micrometer).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level II certification according to NAS 410
  • Experience with non-metallics
  • Level II certification in Digital Radiography (DR) with the ability to certify in UT
  • Level II certification in Film Radiography (RT) with the ability to certify in DR
  • Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) with the ability to certify in DR
  • Ability to develop UT or RT technique sheets for approval by a Level III
