Role Purpose

The Quality Engineer coordinates the activities in Civil Design Engineering on developing, maintaining, and monitoring the compliancy of the various Engineering functions to the customer and regulatory requirements as documented in the applicable Quality Management Systems, and provides support on Airworthiness and Product Safety matters in relation to design assurance procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • To act as focal point and coordinator for Design Assurance governance and compliance topics, within the assigned Design Engineering locations, supporting the Design Engineering process owners
  • To support the development, implementation and maintenance of the design assurance process and procedures in compliance with all regulatory, quality, and customer requirements
  • As part of the design assurance function, to update and maintain BMS procedures and work instructions in compliance to design assurance requirements
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining Design Engineering Quality Assurance Plans for assigned programmes
  • To perform design assurance audits in accordance with surveillance plans
  • As part of the design assurance function, maintain the signatory approvals process
  • Responsible for adequately and timely conducting audits and associated reporting, within the scope of Design Engineering for assigned programmes
  • Establish, support and share best practice for design assurance across all programme teams and GKN sites.
  • Implement and coordinate design assurance continuous improvement activities.
  • Provide support to investigations of non-compliance to design requirements, and develop and coordinate corrective actions.
  • To represent GKN Aerospace Design Engineering Quality in program teams and coordinate with customers and suppliers in all design assurance matters including customer meetings and correspondence.
  • To represent GKN Aerospace Design Engineering Quality in 3rd party and/ or customer audits and coordinate any activity associated with these audits within Design Engineering
  • To support and assist in Airworthiness and Product Safety matters in relation to design assurance procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain personal and company performance objectives.  Address performance issues in a timely manner and encourage excellent performance in all aspects of the job

Job Qualifications

  • Essential: 

Experience of engineering and/or quality environments, preferably in Aerospace 
Completed the following training courses/ modules (or has knowledge of)

AS9100 Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Aviation, Space, and Defense Organizations

AS9100 Requirements for GKN Auditors & Personnel Involved in Quality Management Activities

  • Desirable:

Experience of diverse functions (Operations/production, Sales/customer relationship management
​​​​​​Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement system or problem solving qualifications

Demonstrable knowledge of application of ISO 9001, AS9100, Aviation Regulators (UK-CAA, EASA, FAA etc) & customer quality requirements into a business management system;

Functional and/or operational management.
