Job Summary

GKN’s Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and manufacturing process development facility which is a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It includes a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy. We are looking for a University Research Integrator to join the Horizon 3 team on a 12 month FTC.  Responsible for exploring radical new technologies such as hydrogen propulsion, digitalisation and advanced air mobility, you will work closely with the Technology Leader – Emerging Technologies. The University Research Integrator will be based at Cranfield University with frequent contact/travel to the GKN Global Technology Centre in Bristol. The successful candidate will conduct a mix of direct research/study, working with the university to steer the current or potential projects and supporting knowledge transfer to the core GKN team. The role will engage with a diversity of technical topics and specialists, and as such, the successful candidate will have sufficient academic background and aptitude to learn.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop simulation methods and best practices for exergy based analysis, integration of skin heat exchangers to future aircraft concepts, and other related future propulsion studies
  • Enable the transfer of knowledge into the GKN team to support the integration new technology into future aerospace products
  • Manage relevant University technical engagements including MSc, group design projects, PhDs and research roadmaps
  • Develop and deliver training material to the GKN team
  • Enhance connections between GKN specialists and university academics
  • Disseminate specific GKN requirements for new research projects/experiments
  • Steer university infrastructure investment aligned with GKN goals
  • Coordination of technology workshops and reviews between University and  GKN colleagues

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:


  • Accredited undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science based subjects    
  • Experienced in numerical analysis (preferably in an aerospace context)
  • Experience in Aircraft Thermal Management
  • Proficiency in CFD analysis


  • Masters or PhD in thermal management.
  • Experience in Aerospace systems modelling and analysis
