Filton is GKN Aerospace’s largest advanced aerostructures facility. The site specialises in the assembly of major leading and trailing edge wing sub-assemblies, as well as the manufacture of wing structural components for civil and military aircraft. Major customers including BAE Systems and Airbus, with key contracts on world-leading single aisle (A320), widebodied (A330, A350 and A380) and military aircraft. As a Team Leader, you will look after a team of between 8 and 12, ensuring that we deliver our People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost (PSQDCC) targets. Reporting into a Group Leader (who in turn reports to our site Operations Director), you will be an integral part of our Operations team, helping us deploy our Lean Operating Model.

How Team Leaders Contribute

Team Leaders have responsibility for:

  • Creating and sustaining a culture that is aligned to the GKN Aerospace 'A Great Place To Work' value drivers and Culture Principles by role-modelling behaviours, motivating, encouraging and recognising the contribution of individuals and teams.
  • Holding Team Members and Team Leaders accountable to embody the GKNA culture principles
  • Being Open and Honest when appraising and managing individuals' performance whilst supporting and coaching individuals to close performance gaps
  • Providing opportunities for Team Members to play to their strengths; do what they do best and create on-going opportunities for learning and personal development
  • Exemplifying a safety-first mindset and ensuring that the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards are applied and that your assigned areas are a model of a world class healthy and safe working environment
  • Leading and developing your team to understand the context, mechanics and the delivery of PSQDCC targets to meet customer and stakeholder commitments
  • Driving the disciplined and rigorous deployment of the Lean Operating Model (LOM) across your assigned area
  • Being actively involved in problem solving and the management system using a 'Go to Gemba' approach to solve problems with the ambition that 95% of issues can be solved within the zone itself
  • Contributing to the Value Stream future state design, and ensuring its execution across your assigned area
  • Cooperating with other Team Leaders to ensure the best performance outcomes for the entire area
  • Holding the functional support staff accountable for adhering to the Global standards and enabling your zone team to meet its targets

What You'll Bring

• Exceptional performance leading teams, demonstrating adherence to standardised work  - ideally within a manufacturing environment
• Self-motivated by meeting and exceeding performance targets.
• Demonstrated ability to work with various stakeholders.
• Demonstrated potential to lead, engage, train and develop direct reports.
• An effective communicator and an influential team leader.
• Qualifications in an Engineering or Science discipline would be advantageous.
• Good standard of English language; oral and written.
• Experience working with a Lean Operating Model / Production System would be advantageous but is not essential.
