The Opportunity

Based at our Western Approach site which is a Centre of Excellence in the manufacture of wing spars for some of the world's most popular aircraft, our new Senior Manufacturing Engineer will provide technical expertise at a process and integrator level for operational and development programmes (Projects) to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills. They will be accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, detail parts and assemblies.

How You'll Contribute

  • Manage the team and implement the manufacturing schedule, that delivers the method, bill of material and tooling to embody a major modification on the A350 trailing edge spar components
  • Liaise and co-ordinate effective reviews with design teams ensuring that design data is fit for purpose in order that parts and tools are manufactured to specification at the agreed cost with on time delivery
  • Liaise with the lead tool engineer to agree the technical specification for the tooling work 
  • package, identify and agree requirements for design data in the manufacture of the tooling suite
  • Manage and monitor the manufacturing plan for adherence to delivery milestones and tasks, this will include overall responsibility for delivery of the tooling and the procurement of parts and materials.
  • Generate delivery, progress and financial metrics (key performance indicators). 
  • Identify and manage qualification test plans applicable to any new cutter tooling and/or manufacturing processes
  • Identify and manage first article inspection requirements working directly with the Quality Manager
  • Represent the team as the primary point of contact with the customer ensuring efficient two way communication
     

What You'll Bring

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

Essential
Experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
Knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000 and AS9100
Fluent in English language, both written and spoken
Demonstrated experience of delivering complex technical projects
Technical expertise in Manufacturing Engineering, with a professional qualification (ideally university degree level) and/or appropriate background in engineering (Aerospace,     Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical). 
Participates in activities within a global technical community and has an understanding of the interface with broader business functions within GKN.
 
Desirable:
Project / Program Management experience
Familiarity with AS9145 APQP process or equivalent
