We are looking for a Senior Engineer with a strong background in Aircraft Design to help shape the future of flight.  You will be responsible for the design of the aircraft preliminary engineering from requirements elucidation through to aircraft design and performance assessment.  In this role, you will work closely with a team of aircraft configuration engineers working on new and modified aircraft configuration assessments.  Your initial focus will be on the research and development of liquid hydrogen aerospace vehicles.
The Senior Engineer shall draw on their diverse engineering background and product lifecycle awareness to progress a variety of research activity in the TRL1-6 range. They must have sound experience in leading technical work, including budgeting, schedule and risk management. They shall be capable of achieving through others internally and externally, and will be committed to development of their own skills and professional network. Their good communication skills shall enable them to confidently engage with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

Shall be responsible for the development of advanced aircraft concepts with an initial focus on the development of hydrogen aircraft reporting technically to the Principal Aircraft Design Engineer.
Shall ensure that aircraft requirements are captured, managed, developed into design solutions and validated products. 
Shall ensure the development of optimal integrated aircraft concepts.
Shall be responsible for vehicle sizing and performance trade studies to define and evaluate advanced concepts, identify technology requirements, performance parametric trade studies and provide guidance to the other team disciplines.
Shall interact with customers and other external bodies for aircraft configuration design.
Shall interact directly with regulatory bodies such as the CAA/FAA/EASA in deriving aircraft level certification requirements for advanced propulsion systems.
Shall develop tools to improve capabilities and efficiency in holistic aircraft configuration engineering and systems integration.
Shall conduct competitive vehicle performance assessments with alternate propulsion systems as well as test data analysis and correlations to performance models.
Shall anticipate and manage transversal technical and business issues, arbitrate between solutions considering all aspects: sustainability, reusability, optimisation, opportunity, schedule, quality, weight, cost, risks, safety and performance.
Generate technical reports and presentations, with the ability to present information in a clear and organized manner.
Shall ensure EHS policy and process adherence for their activities, and will contribute to a proactive EHS culture in the wider team. 
Shall contribute to the development of GKN as a 'Great Place to Work', aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership.
May support project stakeholder management with internal/external customers, and may lead management of supply chain partners in some cases.
