Job Summary

Based at our state of the art, Global Technology Centre (GTC) Bristol, we are seeking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer- Mechatronics. Working as part of a a transnational team supporting a variety of technology activities, the successful candidate will help with the development and implementation of intelligent automated systems to meet the increased rate and high quality demands of the aerospace sector. GKN is targeting ambitious and visionary individuals who can quickly see the potential of emerging technologies in the context of aircraft assembly. The successful applicant shall draw on their experience and awareness of state-of-art automation to progress a variety of research and development activity in the TRL1-6 range. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Guide and contribute within the team to ensure that technology and technical requirements are thoroughly considered and captured.
  • Provide highly detailed, consistent designs, working with the automation technologists to ensure that development activities are executed appropriately
  • Develop an understanding of the strategic direction of assembly operations and the approach required in execution of development activities
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and catapult centres 
  • Develop solutions from conception to reality
  • Ensure EHS policy and process adherence for their own activities, and will contribute to a proactive EHS culture 
  • Recognize and conceive opportunities for technology introduction and process improvement
  • Support project stakeholder management with internal/external customers, and lead management of supply chain partners

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:


  • Strong working experience of CATIA
  • Proven experience of meeting manufacturing design requirements 
  • Experience creating engineering drawings for manufacture
  • A relevant, accredited engineering degree or experience in similar role


  • Experience of aerospace assembly and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with DELMIA kinematics
  • Experience of typical automated systems; including kinematics and control
