Job Summary


You will draw on your broad general knowledge of Composite Manufacturing Technologies and Processing to support the product lifecycle working on a variety of research tasks in the TRL1-6 range. You will execute tasks according to plan, exhibiting a logical and methodical approach to problem solving enabling you to understand and adapt to new technology areas quickly.

Job Responsibilities


  • Contribute to multi-year planning and internal/external funding proposals as required
  • Contribute to Technology Development Plans and Technology Business Cases
  • Support 'hands on' development test work and development trials
  • Ensure planning documentation are regularly updated, accurate, and delivery is on track
  • Capturing and recording data and results from test work and development trials
  • Raising and issuing high quality and detailed technical documentation
  • Suggest and explore exploitation routes, aligned with the guidance of the Work Stream Lead
  • Support project stakeholder management with internal/external customers
  • Ensure EHS policy and process adherences, and contribute to a proactive EHS culture in the wider team
  • Contribute to the development of GKN as a 'Great Place to Work', aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership

How you'll contribute


To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:



•    Experience of RTM, resin infusion and / or traditional prepreg techniques
•    Familiarity with composite component / tooling design and manufacture processes
•    Hand layup experience of variety of CF textile material options
•    Recognised qualifications (HNC or above) and experience in Mechanical, Materials Science or Aerospace Engineering
•    You will have a good general awareness of the product lifecycle including design, materials, manufacturing and end of life
•    Good reporting skills on project status and progress




•    Aerospace background preferred but relevant experience from other industries is welcome
•    You will have a general awareness of budget and schedule management
•    Automated composite processing; AFP, ATL, Pick and Place
•    Process data monitoring and capturing
•    Experience in the post-processing of cured composite structures; machining, hand finishing, drilling etc.
•    Process simulation techniques
•    Application of Industry 4.0 techniques
•    Awareness of sustainability and product LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) tools
