Job Summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Engineer to join our UK Civil Engineering Design Engineering team as a Quality Engineer. In this role you will coordinate the activities in Civil Design Engineering on developing, maintaining, and monitoring the compliancy of the various Engineering functions to the customer and regulatory requirements as documented in the applicable Quality Management Systems. You will provide support on Airworthiness and Product Safety matters in relation to design assurance procedures. Working with the Design Assurance Manager(s), you will develop and implement a common and consistent Engineering set of processes/procedures through the Aerostructures businesses.  The focus of this role is UK Civil Design Engineering locations, however, there will also be a requirement to work across the wider Design Engineering organisation when supporting projects and initiatives which impact the wider Engineering organisation.

This person can be located in the UK, within travel distance of the GKN Aerospace Civil Engineering sites (Bristol predominantly)

Job Responsibilities

In this role you will:

 be a focal point and coordinator for quality governance and compliance topics, within the assigned GKN Aerospace UK Aerostructures sites, supporting the Design Engineering process owners
 support the development, implementation and maintenance of the design assurance process and procedures in compliance with all regulatory, quality, and customer requirements
 support the design assurance function to update and maintain quality procedures and work instructions in compliance to design assurance requirements
 be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining Design Engineering Quality Assurance Plans and/ or Design Organisation Interface Documents for assigned programmes
 support the design assurance  function in performing design assurance audits in accordance with surveillance plans
 be responsible for adequately and timely conducting audits and associated reporting, within the scope of Design Engineering  
 establish, support and share best practice for design assurance across all programme teams and GKN sites.
 implement and coordinate design assurance continuous improvement activities.
 Provide support to investigations of non‐compliance to design requirements, and develop and coordinate corrective actions.
 represent GKN Aerospace Design Engineering Quality in program teams and coordinate with customers and suppliers in all design assurance matters including customer meetings and correspondence.
 represent GKN Aerospace Design Engineering Quality in 3rd party and/ or customer audits and coordinate any activity associated with these audits within Design Engineering
 support and assist in Airworthiness and Product Safety matters in relation to design assurance procedures.
 maintain policy and direction, including relevant QMS / BMS; monitor and maintain personal and company performance objectives. Address performance issues in a timely manner and encourage excellent performance in all aspects of the job

What You'll Bring

Formal Qualifications
Essential
 Bachelors degree or equivalent experience level
Desirable
Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement system or problem solving qualifications
Demonstrable knowledge of application of ISO 9001, AS9100, Aviation Regulators (EASA, FAA etc) & customer quality requirements into a business management system;
Functional and/or operational management

Specific Functional Capabilities, Knowledge and Skills 
Essential
Broad experience of engineering and/or quality environments, preferably in Aerospace
Strong quality knowledge with respect to the function
Ability to influence people within an organisation; enthusiasm and desire to succeed; good coaching skills.
Medium level of problem solving and decision‐making skills
Excellent communication, presentation & interpersonal skills
Completed the following training courses/ modules (or is willing to follow)
 AS9100 Quality Management Systems ‐ Requirements for Aviation, Space, and Defence Organisations  
 AS9100 Requirements for GKN Auditors & Personnel Involved in Quality Management Activities
 Basic Airworthiness & DOA training
