Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a energetic, dynamic Engineer to join GKN Aerospace, based at our Filton facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development of an Additively Manufactured project ranging from industrialisation through to delivery of Laser Powder Bed, Electron Beam Melting and other Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes.


The Project Engineer will lead a team to deliver critical aerospace products by developing Additive Manufacture through the technology readiness level framework and proactively managing the risks throughout the development lifecycle. You will be the focal point for the customer and as such will be required to understand and manage the communication of technical concepts and product requirements between external companies and internal functions.


 In this role the chosen candidate will work within the AM Centre focussing on product development and industrialisation. The role is delivery focussed and has accountability for ensuring project deliverables and milestones are met.

Job Responsibilities
  • Generating gate packs for lifecycle and technology readiness reviews
  • Integrating the top level technical and program aspects for the application through leadership of the project team consisting of materials, design, manufacturing, process and research engineers
  • Generating project schedules and resource plans
  • Managing the project and establishing project priorities such that deliverables are produced with quality and on schedule
  • Communicate progress to a wide stakeholder group including both Technology and Business stakeholders
  • Act as a champion in the business and externally for AM development
  • Ensuring project requirements are understood and met


Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven track record delivering technically challenging projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in multi-discipline engineering activities
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, with a willingness to take on tasks outside of their direct area of responsibility
  • Project management, planning and organising skills based on recognised management methods
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Delivery focussed with an ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong problem solving ability and solutions focused positive approach
  • Relationship building at all levels up to and including senior management level
  • Able to influence and where necessary challenge stakeholders at all levels within the business
  • Confident presenting technical and non-technical information at all levels within the business
  • Able to work with cross functional teams that will typically include operations, design engineering, commercial. procurement, quality and suppliers
  • Has good judgement in considering when escalation is appropriate.
  • Strong minded and committed, focussed on delivery, must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Prepared to work on the complete range of GKN Aerospace programmes, both civil and military
  • Must have a HNC/HND (or equivalent) level qualification and/or a recognised trade qualification with manufacturing experience in an aerospace production environment
  • Relevant Bachelor Degree or above would be preferable
